Even though my jobs sucks, I just got my first paycheck and it has made things temporarily better :)
I had a rough day at work yesterday. The job is very stressful. But, I got my first paycheck and it is A LOT more than what I made at my last job (I got a 25k raise moving from my last job to here).
This brings the age-old question to mind....would you rather make more money and be miserable or make less money and be content? While I can say the money makes me feel better...I don't know if it's "worth" it at the end of the day.
Thoughts?

yes. My current job I took a big paycut (only because I don't get OT here, and did at my last job), my base salary is the same, but I'm much more content now than I was at the last one

Make less and be happy. Unfortunatley I have learned my lesson as well. Believe me I am broke but my mental stability is worth more than anything money can buy!

Honestly- if it's stressful and 9 to 5-- I would definitely deal with it for a while.. If I had to work crazy hours and I had no life and was totally stressed and exhausted all the time-- I would think differently.

This is a debate I have with myself everyday.
Sure...I say less money and be content, but when it comes down to it I need to pay my bills. Making less isn't going to help me provide for my family, which in turn will make me more miserable all around.
Why oh why can't we have both!

I think so long as you make enough to live and be comfortable (food and a decent place to live), nothing else matters. I get an initial rush from buying an expensive bag or shoes, but it wears off and the stress of an awful job remains.

me too
I worked for an INSANE person and after a while I was so miserable I'd cry on my way to work every day. NOT worth it.

I would honestly say that I would rather make less money & be happy at my job. I used to work at an office where I made good money, but I hated working there.

I've learned the hard way that it's not worth any amount of money for me.
I also got a 20K raise from one job to the next..there's a reason the pay is so high..they know they'd better pay well for the aggravation. I got physically sick from that job. I will never do that again.
I ended up leaving that job and working at a few lower paying ones until I found this one. This one paid lower at first but now I'm making more than I would have with the other one and I'm so much happier.
Money isn't everything. If you are lucky enough to get paid well and be happy in your job I think it's hard to get that balance.
If you are making what you think you are worth for the job at hand and are happy, then that's where you should be.
Life is too short to be miserable at work. Life is too hard..why make it harder?

Less money and content hands down ! I got a 40% increase when I started my new job - I've been there 6 months and know I will be looking in about 6 months. The money is just not worth it. Thank goodness I've had maternity leave to not think about it - but I have that feeling in the pit of my stomach. I'm just not happy.

Exactly. I just left a position which had me working crazy hours, lots of travel and tons of stress. I just accepted a job and make a little more than I was making, but further down the line I will probably make less. Which is alright with me! My SANITY is worth all of the $$ in the world. I learned the hard way as well!

IMO, I would rather make less money and be happy. when I'm not happy, my overall quality of life suffers.
