ER or PM Pediatrics

My 13 yo has been complaining of knee pain, I took him to the pediatrician Tuesday, he thought it was just from being active, and told him not to ride his bike for a week and take alleve. Thursday it was worse, so I took him to Premiere Care, mainly to get an X-ray, he said it was a growth thing and said to follow up with an orthopedic.

He stayed home yesterday and basically slept all day. Today he has been sleeping all day, and now he has a rash all on the inner thigh of the leg that hurts, no fever or sore throat or anything, but he does say his neck is a little sore. My biggest thing is I am 35 weeks pregnant, I know the ER will do blood, which maybe is what we need to do, or maybe it's just heat rash. My mom thinks the ER is the place to go because she feels he's been off for a few days.

The pediatrics there is really great!

They "think" it's a form of shingles. They said sometimes if they don't have the chicken pox booster, which he may not have because it's relatively new, that can happen. I dont know. Today the rash looks sort of bruised, I was really concerned it was menigitis, but the dr said the rash doesnt look like a meningitis rash and he doesnt have a fever, no neck pain, no headache or anything. He said the rash doesn't look like a meningitis rash, but today I did the cup test and now I just don't know. The infectious disease doctor gave me his number to call on Tuesday.

Re: ER or PM Pediatrics

Thank you!! The dr there said it can happen! I had shingles when I was 30, it was the most painful thing ever!! He did have severe leg pain, but it was on the outside of the thigh and the rash is on the inner thigh, and I remember my ribs/back feeling like I was sunburned, but this didnt bother him at all! I am hoping that is all it is/was, blood work should come in Tuesday he said.

They did a test to check for shingles, and I am going to call the pediatrician on Monday to see if he did indeed have the booster.

Of course all this is reminding me that I ahve to get my husband to get the chicken pox shot, he never had the chicken pox, and never got the shot!! The dr last night read him the riot act for it, men are so dense!!!
