Endocrinologist vs. Reproductive Endo?

In the past, I have had some hormone imbalances and this month I had a crazy long cycle and had to take Provera to get my period. The 2 months prior, I never got a positive with my OPKs. I read a lot of info online about PCOS, but when I had blood work with my OBGYN, she checked my AMH (egg count) levels and I was within the normal limit. She said people with PCOS have abnormally high AMH levels since they don't ovulate.

I would like to go to an endocrinologist to get my levels checked so that if there is something going on, we find out sooner rather than later. Should I be going to a regular endocrinologist? Or a reproductive endocrinologist? Any recommendations on doctors you've seen and liked?

Many thanks Chat Icon

I would go directly to a reproductive endocrinologist. I am in white Plains and used Dr. Neal-Perry at Montiefiore women's health- she is fantastic.

If you come to the Infertility board prettymuch everyone there sees an RE.

See an RE - they can do everything a reg endo can, plus more.

I see Dr Brenner at Li IVF

you can have completely normal AMH and still have PCOS. most OBs are very uneducated about PCOS. it is the most common reproductive/ovulatory issue. it def sounds like you might have it. problem is there is no standard test to DX it - its usually a combo of symptoms/history/hormone bloodwork. go to a reproductive endo, even a regular endo isn't terribly knowledgeable about PCOS.
