Elderberry Syrup - How do you use it?

With school starting and the germs beginning to flow I'm wondering if the elderberry syrup fans could share some of their thoughts.

I bought some last year and didn't see much help when I gave it to my kids once they started showing symptoms (their colds seemed to last just as long as without the syrup.)

I will say that in July my Mom was spending time with them, came down with a cold, and when I started the syrup BEFORE they showed symptoms their colds lasted less than 24 hours.

It seems expensive to give it to them every day (maybe I'm buying the wrong brand?)

There doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there on how to handle this?

I haven't used it with my DD but for myself I find that if I take it when I feel rundown, have been exposed to someone sick or feel the VERY VERY beginnings of something coming on- for me a scratchy throat- it works wonders.

I have the pills, I guess syrup is better?

Do you give to your children? How old and how do you administer the syrup, and how much?

What is it good for? Colds and respiratory bugs? Stomach bugs? Where can you get it?

im not sure about pills, we use syrup.

it's to prevent or shorten cold and flu. i go by the directions on the package for the kids one but lately ive just been giving them 1/2 or even 1/4 tsp of the adult one.

amazon, health food stores, vitacost. you can even make your own, it's pretty easy from what ive seen.

eta i started giving to them around 10 months and mix it in a cup with a little water and their probiotic powder.

We use the adult syrup every day during flu season. I gave them about 1/2 tsp per day. In the spring and summer, I only give it if I notice they are starting to come down with something, in which case I give 1/2 tsp twice a day.

I was using this but didn't really notice it being any better than Vitamin C, just much more costly, and it doesn't last long. I give Emergen C fizzy drink when a runny nose starts. Does the trick

Elderberry Syrup - How do you use it?

I took 1 dose when I was starting to feel a scratchy throat and run down and it never turned into anything more.

Re: Elderberry Syrup - How do you use it?

My kids get the syrup daily & it's made a huge difference in their immune systems. I buy off Amazon bc it's a bigger bottle. It does become costly but in my eyes it's worth the benefit. They get 1tsp daily at lunchtime. It they get sick, the key to it truly working, is you give it up to 3 times daily. The daily dose is preventative & multiple doses helps shorten duration.

I take a capsule of it daily & when sick the dissolvable tablets every couple hours

It's an overall immune system booster so it will help you fight off anything that comes along more effectively- colds, flu, viruses etc

You can get it at CVS, Target, any drugstore
