Eczema!!!
I just found out that what I thought was a nasty rash on ds's chest and back is actually a bad case of Eczema.
DS is 19 months old and this is his first 'bout with Eczema. It started about a month ago and when we went for our well-visit the ped said it just looked like dry skin. Well it got much worse, so I took him back today and saw a different dr in the practice (thank goodness) who said that it is definitely eczema and it it pretty out of control b/c we let it go for so long He suggested cortizone ointment and acquaphor, but I wanted to see if any of the other moms have any other suggestions.
Please share any home remedies, products, prescriptions that have helped... My poor boy!

Re: Eczema!!!
DH and DD both have bad eczema and it's under control-thank goodness!
Neither of them use the cortizone cream if you treat it right at home.
First, we only give DD a bath 3 times a week max when it's warm, less in the winter-water dries out the skin. We wash her with Dove or Cetaphil, then lotion her up while damp right after with Aveeno.
For flare ups we use Aquafor or Eurecin (the one in the tub though not lotion)
The gookier, greasier the better the it will work and stick on the skin.
Eczema stinks!!

Re: Eczema!!!
DS has had it for a while now. Cortizone works, but Dr's advice you should you use it sparingly, Burt's Bee Buttermilk lotion works the best (I have tried them all) and for bath products I use Mustela (they have a line of products for eczema & their reg. baby stuff is good) I also just started to use J&J soothing naturals. DS has very sensitive / dry skin and these products work best for him!

Re: Eczema!!!
I've heard really good things about the Burt's Bees buttermilk lotion, we can't use it since Andy is allergic to milk. We use Aquaphor.
The cortizone will get it under control quickly and then you can use some of the other products to maintain.

Re: Eczema!!!
My Bf's DD has had it since birth. she is now 15 months. The docotr finaly gavce her a precription cortizone b/c nothing else was working strong enough. The poor kid was scratching in the middle of the night. She has it behind her knees and on her arms. The precription cortizone worked instantly.

Re: Eczema!!!
If he is a bad outbreak then the dr. did give me a prescription but I think the .5% of hydrocortizon works better if he starts scratching other wise to keep it under control I use Gental Naturals Baby Eczema cream almost every night. I also try to give him a bath 2 times a week but on the days where it is has been warm and we have gone for walks he gets a bath because I don't like leaving the suntain lotion on him.
I also have the Burt Bee's Buttermilk Lotion and I feel it is too milky and it doesn't asborb into his skin well.

Re: Eczema!!!
Andrew has had it his whole life. I only bath him 1 time a week.
I also use California Baby Soap/Shampoo. And Gentle Naturals Eczema Cream.
If it is really bad and his really hurting him I have no choice but to use the steroid cream
I also have to make sure that he does not get too hot because that is when it flares up. He has to sleep in a cool environment.

Re: Eczema!!!
my ped suggested Lubriderm advanced therapy for extra dry skin.
When ever James' Eczema acts up I use this and the rash usually clears up within 48 hrs.
I don't use it everyday...for everyday use I just use regular baby lotion.
