duncan hines red velvet cake

has anyone ever made this? How was it? I was going to make a rv cake from scratch but I'm making a lot of desserts for thanksgiving and I thought this might be easier.

My cousin has made it it, I've never had it, I've never even seen it in the store, lol. But my cousin does love it, apparently they have it in PA. She buys it all the time.

oh ok, someone else asked where I got it because she couldn't find it. I didn't realize they were hard to get. They sell them at target if you're interested.

I made it two weeks ago and it was very good! I bought the mix in ShopRite.

It's very good - just watch the timing. It can dry out pretty quickly.

Definitely save yourself the time and effort by uing a boxed mix.

I've made it before and it came out great. I actually made cupcakes too. I got them from Western Beef and that was about a year ago.

My sister bought me some and it was okay, just tasted like a generic cake. I think the red dye makes it really gross, everything was stained red. I wouldn't make one again, I don't get the attraction personally, I would rather have a nice chocolate cake.

But people seem to love them!

i just saw the recipe for this in the Woman's Day November issue. it looks like a regular cake recipe, but the kicker is that you add one little bottle of the red food dye (you know the size that comes in the set of four colors) to the batter to get the deep red color.

I thought it had that distinct red velvet taste. I have seen them at Uncle Guiseppe's.
