Don't take your eyes off your kids in the pool even for a second!!
We were at my Mom's pool today, my 3 yo had to use the bathroom so we took off her float, when we came back into the pool area she didn't put her float back on since we were about to leave, well, my Mom and I were taking to my husband and we looked away for a few seconds and my 3yo forgot that she wasn;t wearing her flooat and was under water!! It was FRIGHTENING!!! It took only a split secind and she slipped in adn was under water. The scary part was that there was no noise to signal her distress, it was totally silent since she was already sinking in the water. It was truly so scary, so PLEASE don't take your eyess off your kids for even a moment, it happens so fast!!! And we are 3 "watchdog" people, I alwasy have an eye on my kids, but we glanced away for a moment and look what happened.

AWWWW Im so sorry you had such a scary moment  Thank God all is ok !!!
Its so hard to say whether those life vests are the best thing or not, of course theyre great, but I also heard that they give the child a false sense of security...

Thank you so much, my hubby, Mom and I are still so shaken about it, it was terrifying watching her sruggle for that split second. You;re right those life vests are not all that good, this happened at 5pm and since then my mom has already hired a swim instructor to come to her house every Friday to give private swim insrtuctions to my kids. I can't get the scene out of my head, I just keep replaying it over and over again, it taight us all an invaluable lesson. I can't even sleep, I feel like I need a valium.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I can imagine Please dont be hard on yourself or beat yourself up... It really is so scary, and we all think it cant happen to us, and it can happen to any of us
and to think that some moms (on here) totally judged "poor parenting" on those that "werent watching their kids" when these things happen... I'll say it a million times, it can happen to anyone...
Lots of hugs to you, my heart is thumping jsut thinknig about it. Im so happy she's ok and Im sure you gave her a million extra kisses tonite. Im going to get moving on swimming lessons for my boys too. we started last year, and I think its so important...

I worry about my MIL's pool and have tried to talk her into fencing it, but she is resisting.

What a scary thing to happen -- I am so glad that she is okay.
Every year there are too many stories --- it really is so dangerous and people just don't think about it.
This is why I am glad that my FIL has an above ground pool that is completely fenced in. The latch is a PITA to do .... but that's a good thing ... at least until she's 7 or 8 and can figure the latch out on her own....
It's not the most luxurious pool but at least for now I think it's safer.

That is very, very scary and the reason I don't want a pool in my backyard. It is just so easy for one second to change your whole life. I am glad your baby is okay!

I glad she's ok. It's stuff like this happening that makes me think "Thank God I learned my lesson this way" rather than the horrific alternative.

I agree about those life jackets. This happened to my girlfriend's daughter a few years ago. Same scenario....went inside to go to the bathroom; removed life jacket and walked into pool. Keep in mind, 3 adults were standing right in front of her talking and all of a sudden one of us was like can she swim (as her daughter was struggling under water). It's freightening.
I'm glad to hear your daughter's ok.

I thank God your daughter is OK. The scariest part of how you explained it is how she made no noise at all. I have a 3 1/2 year old who went from being very nervous about the pool to being very daring. We dont have a pool but my SIL does and I am always imploring my DH to keep his eyes on him (and my 2 year old who likes the keep up with her brother) I know my DH thinks I am a broken record but I dont even care. You must still be a basket case from this even today, I know I would be. Im just grateful its a warning you are posting for us here, not the alternative.

That is why my husband won't let us get a pool until Steven is much older. It's amazing how fast it can happen!!!
