Re: Does Your Baby Stare at The Celing/Lights/Fans A Lot?

Never heard that about the autism link.

With autism, individuals on the spectrum are fascinated by things that spin, or move in a repetitive manner. The concern should be more when they are supposed to be engaging in social interactions and symbolic play, and instead are watching things move...

I will look for the developmental checklist I have and post it - its great - and it should help relieve some of your worries!

Liam loves lights but he doesn't stare at them constantly. Did for a bit when he was younger and still does but not to the point where that's the only thing he focused on entirely. I can't remember when he started to focus on me more, maybe 6 or 8 weeks?

They LOVE the fans, and lights.

Mine does..and it's concerning me a bit. She does make eye contact with me, but she also stares up there a lot.

How old is she?

6 weeks.

Staring at the celing fan could be an indication of Autism...that's why I'm a little concerned.

Or it can mean the big is interested in the big whirly thing in the middle of the ceiling. I would not be concerned unless the baby was showing other sigsn of autism.Chat Icon

I would NOT be concerned it is quite normal for them to stare at the lights and mobiles.
She is only 6 weeks old, and NOT making eye contact with you that much is ok.
If that was an indication for Autism, then I think every child would have it.
