Do you give your child cold medicine?
DH is vehemently against giving our 3.5yo any type of cold medicine.
Do you have any other remedies for a bad cough? What do you give your toddlers/preschoolers?
I plan to pick up some cough drops this morning.

Re: Do you give your child cold medicine?
Have you tried Zarbees? It is all natural/drug free. It's pretty much just honey Approved for all children 1 year old and up. It was developed by a pediatrician who wanted to be able to offer something to his patients for a cough who were too young for cold meds.
They sell it at CVS etc. The few times we used it on DD- she slept like a champ and didn't cough at all!

Im with the hubby here.. No way Jose to cold medicines.
I gave her Benedryl to dry her up, Claritin to maintain, Honey Elixir for the throat and homopathic solutions but never ever actual cold medicines.

I agree. I don't think I gave my DS cold medicine till he was close to 5, and even then I've only given it a couple of times. Benadryl is great for drying up a post-nasal drip (which is what makes them cough), and a little honey or maple syrup to coat the throat. I give warm green tea as a nice soothing drink too.

No I give allergies meds when needed for allergies. For colds I give saline, lots of fluids and teaspoons of honey for coughs as per my ped.

Do you just give honey alone?
DH says it is just a cold and it will go away. He doesn't think anything is serious and is not helpful at all.
