Do you and your DS have the same last name? I kept my maiden name when I got married.
I kept my maiden name when I got married. I'm trying to decide if I should change it legally or if I can just say that I am Mrs. DH's name when I call schools, doctors, etc. regarding DS.

Technically, my name is hyphenated. I have since dropped my maiden last name and now just go by DH's last name.
I have found that regardless of what your last name is legally, most people will automatically call you by your son's last name. This is what happened with my sister.

I have a different last name than DD. Her ped's office calls me Mrs S___, I just let them. I plan on bringing a copy of her birth certificate when we travel just so I have ID that show's she's my DD. I've heard there can be problems if baby's passport/ID doesn't match up to your last name.

Re: Do you and your DS have the same last name? I kept my maiden name when I got married.
My last name is different than my DDs' b/c I am remarried...Im often called Mrs So and SO...
When I call their school I will say "Hello this is Mrs "Hbugal" Lexi's So and So's mother...
It's not an uncommon thing today. Ive noticed that the school is especially aware that parents will/can have a different last name as their parents. I dont think any of my daughters teachers have ever called me by the wrong last name.

I changed my name when DS was 4 months old. The sight of Baby L****-Devine nearly gave my DH a stroke when we were in the hospital

Yes, I changed my name when I was 6 months pg with DS#1. Personally it was important to me for us to have the same last name on his birth certificate.

Re: Do you and your DS have the same last name? I kept my maiden name when I got married.
I changed my last name 2 weeks before I went into labor! LOL!
I mainly did it because I knew that at my hospital they label everything by the Mom's last name and I knew that the IL's would have a heart attack if they saw my maiden name on DS's crib (even though that isn't what his name would legally be).
It was also important to me for all of us to have the same last name. I just have to change it at work now, where I have been known as Mrs. "Maiden Name" for 2 years!

It was worse in our hospital... it was written BB-mylastname (BB=baby boy).... no mention of DH's last name at all

I look like this and I have a Chinese last name. I also agree with Hollie's comment about people calling you a last name by default.

Re: Do you and your DS have the same last name? I kept my maiden name when I got married.
No. I kept my maiden name and DS has DH's last name. I call myself by my first and last name when I speak with daycare and the doctor's office , no Ms. or Mrs. anything. They usually call me "Mrs. DH lastname." I generally just answer to it because it's easier, but at daycare I ask the teachers to just call me by my first name. Most of them don't though.

Re: Do you and your DS have the same last name? I kept my maiden name when I got married.
I go by DH's last name , but technically according to Social Security I am still my maiden name.
As for school, I had a kid one year that had both parent's last names, but the mom went by her maiden name and the dad by his name. It wasn't a big deal and we knew it was the kid's mom even though they didn't have the same last name.

Re: Do you and your DS have the same last name? I kept my maiden name when I got married.
I kept my maiden name and DS has DH's last name. Everybody was okay with it except for MIL/FIL. It doesn't really bother me. Whenever daycare calls, they refer to me as Mrs. [DH's last name] and I leave it alone, even though on all the paperwork I have a different last name. It has never posed a problem.
