Do we need to notify health insurance of our PG?
DH thinks we do. Is this true??

yes...certain insurance companies even have programs for healthy pregnancies where they call you every few weeks to check up on you or even a REBATE program!!
We have cigna and we'll be getting a check after the baby is born.

I have Oxford and didn't notify them. Shortly after my first visit they sent me some baby literature, etc.

Check your insurance, mine requires maternity precerfication. My dr's office does it and notifies the insurance company of my pg and due date. The only thing i have to do is pre register at the hospital.

Mine (oxford) requires a call. I work for EMpire BCBS...PLEASE Do not assume your dr's visits will do it. If you Dr doesnt call and your policy requires Pre-Auth, you could get up to a 50% penalty on the hospital stay at delivery time. And you cannot fight that.

Yup! My [Oxford] handbook said "2 weeks notification is required" and I freaked because I wasn't covered by this insurance until late December and needed a visit soon! So I ran in a panic to HR and they called...they said when I had my first appt., the dr. would tell them and that counted. I was relieved.
