Did anyone else's baby have a big bump(hematoma) on their head after birth from the head hitting the pelvis??

My DD has what the doctors said is a hematoma...its on one side of her head and is a pretty big bump. They said it was going to go away, but could take several weeks and that it is very common and nothing to worry about...yet it has not gotten any smaller(she is 18 days old) and Ive never heard of another baby having it.
I think they said it was where her head was hitting my pelvis or something like that...anyone else ever heard of this or had it?? If so, how long did it take for it to go away??

People we used to be friends with had this with their DS. He could not fit through her pelvis in the end, even though they tried with the vacuum and had to do a c-section, but what this baby went through trying to get out- oyy. I am not sure when it went away, but I did see him when he was a few weeks old and did not notice anything.

Yes DD had it on her head, right above her nose. She also had it right above her eyelids.
It was small and it went away after a few weeks.

My poor kid. I had predonal labor for a week and she kept trying to come down into my pelvis. She just banged her head into my pelvis for a week. The umbilical cord was wrapped around her shoulders, so whenever they took a non-stress test her heartrate would not go down, they had no idea until they saw it during my c-section. THe cord was acted like a bungee cord, it just pulled her back up every time she tried to come down.

Thanks...I looked it up more online last night too...its says it can take up to 3 months!!!! Its good to hear that other babies had them and everything turned out ok.....even though the dr. keeps saying it will be fine, its scary to keep seeing on your new babies head.

DD was born with a hematoma and a hemangioma on her head. They were both on the top left side of her head. The hematoma went away by the time she was 3 months but the hemangioma is still there.

my Dr had to use the vacuum to help get Addison out and she had a big ol' lump on her head for almost 3 months.. I was starting to get worried about it when it finally started going away.. although my ped kept telling me no to worry I still did

Im sorry but for some reason this confused the hell out of me when I first read it.....because my DD's name is Addison and they used the vacuum to get her out...which is why she has the hematoma--too funny...At first I thought I was reading my own post...I feel the same way as you did(about my Addison!)

I developed a hematoma when I was about 6 yrs old on my right cheek due to an accident. My parents freaked and took my to countless plastic surgeons under the possibility that it may have to be surgically fixed. Thank goodness someone advised them to do warm massages to the area with a bit of lotion. We used to warm it with a wet warm washcloth and then massage a bit of lotion into the area - it started to soften almost immediately and was gone within 2 wks.

HTH!!!
