DH received a letter for driver's license suspension today, BUT....
it's not for him!
Get this....
the letter has his name, address, date of birth, license # and everything. But the ticket was issued on 9/22 in the Town of Woodbury, UPSTATE NY. THe letter was issued for failure to answer a summons
So I call the Town of Woodbury court and find out this summons was issued on Friday 9/22/06 at 9:30 pm. My DH was at work, in Queens. No way this was him.
The lady who helped me pulled the actual summons, it has a different name, different address but has the same Date of birth and driver's license number as DH. I figured maybe the driver's license # was written wrong, maybe off by 1 #.
The license plate is a motorcycle, which DH does own a motorcycle, but the plate # is off by ONE digit from DH's.
DH is a cop and is at work now, ran the guy's name--come to find out he is deceased !!! I did a search online and found the obituary.
My thing is HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!?!?! DH finds out this guy's date of birth is different, his driver's license # is different, and the other guy's name is NOTHING even CLOSE to DH's name!!!
WEIRD!!!! I am a little freaked out!!!!

That's what I thought, but the lady read my DH's license # and Date of birth RIGHT FROM the summons that the cop wrote!!

Something similar happened to me with my married name.
I got pulled over after my license plate fell off my car. The cop checked my license and someone with the same name, height, and physical description came up as having a warrant out for their arrest.
I looked into the matter further and the social security # and license # did not match.
Plus, she lived in some hick town upstate.
It scared the crap out of me though!

This happened to me once too!! I got something in the mail that said I didn't show up to court for a parking ticket upstate also. The plates listed on the letter was from a car that was already gone and totaled from an accident before the ticket was written! My dad wrote them a letter and proof of the car not being in existance and they took it away....
Weird!?!?!

Oh man I have been fighting something like this for 5 years. I was able to keep my license from being suspended but I keep getting a "bill" from the city for the original ticket

I got a summons for a parking ticket in the mail for Queens, when I was on vacation in Florida!
The way the cop wrote the "o" in the license plate number, it looked like a "d" and they sent it to me instead.
I took pictures of my car and everything, expecting a fight. But it was surprisingly easy to fix. They just took my word for it!
I have at least three more stories of mistaken identity, but I won't bore you. Suffice to say, this probably happens all the time.

First thing I would do is run a credit report on myself. Could be identity theft.
