Delta airline Basic fare tickets
The basic fare compared to regular fare, is the only difference that you can't choose your seat?

You will also be the first to get bumped if they are overbooked. And you can't change or cancel. At all for any reason. You can't even print a boarding pass or check in until you reach the gate. It's a nightmare. Avoid it

Delta airline Basic fare tickets
If you have kids don't do it, you won't sit together. Every single flight I'm on with Delta, tons of kids without seats next to their parents, then a shiit show trying to sort it out, switch seats, and it ultimately holds up the entire departure. I wish they would eliminate those fares.

It's just me and DH. I was thinking of booking that fare for a return flight. If we are not sitting together, we are okay.

My concern would be the possibility of getting bumped. From what I have read, if they are overbooked and nobody takes the offer to get off the flight, the basic economy fares are the first to get bumped as you don't even really have a seat until you are at the gate.
To me, it's not worth it

What happens if you are bumped? I would be booking for a return flight home.
If you're bumped they have to find you another flight but it would be later in the day or even the next day.
I wouldn't want to deal with that chance. I'd just want to get home...
How much is that fare really saving you?

Chances of getting involuntarily bumped on a Delta flight are slim to none. Most people jump at that chance, because of the compensation involved. So I wouldn't worry about that to be honest. On a flight to Cali once, they were looking for 4 volunteers, compensation was almost $1k EACH plus the next flight. I would've jumped on it had we not had a reservation for my son's graduation dinner  They never have problem getting volunteers though, and I fly a lot with them

Yes I was going to Nashville for work and they were asking for volunteers. It went from $400 to $800 in like 20 minutes. And it was an Amex gift card for $800 so it's like cash.

This!!! I just flew Delta last month. We booked First Class but there were 3 people who were booked in Basic Economy that got bumped because they overbooked the flight. I was flying NY to Orlando. Not worth saving a few dollars to me.

I did Basic fare on Delta, 4 of us. Two adults, two kids. It was a breeze. This was to Orlando.
