He's a snake oil salesman who has lost the respect of his colleagues because he encourages patients to spend thousands of dollars for off-label use of medications not backed by peer reviewed research and with little understanding of side effects and consequences. He overmedicates and has dropped the ball on new pregnancy monitoring in a way that resulted in loss that might have been avoidable. He frequently keeps patients waiting for hours after their appointment times and has been known call with beta results as late as 11pm after an 8am blood draw while the patient turns herself inside out with anticipation. He keeps patients coming back cycle after cycle well into their 40s, happily taking their money to treat them for implantation failure as if he is delusional about the realities of AMA. He does nothing to discourage children in his waiting room despite catering to a population that has suffered trauma from repeat loss.

Shall I go on? Because I could.

you dont become an innovator by doing what your colleagues respect, you do it by breaking barriers and testing what hasn't been done.

believe what you want, do what you have to do to cope. without innovators, trial and error, there would be no advances and improvements.

theres plenty of proof out there that these treatments have merit and do work. are they perfect? no, but nothing is. they dont work for everyone because we all have different immune systems and different genetic makeups. but to claim hes a snake oil salesman showcases your lack of true understanding of the core issues such as inflammatory immune response, clotting factors, HLA matching issues, NK activity and many, many, many other problems with implantation, maintaining pregnancy and second/third trimester complications.

i do hope you find what works for you but remember we are all different and if you want people to take you seriously you should consider delivering your message with perspective and respect to other people and not seething with bitterness.

I don't see her post as bitter. IMO people need to hear the good and bad. If I had heard the bad I might not wasted my time with him. I don't really care what his protocols are and if they are unconventional. It's the other things that I would have loved to hear. He does not treat every patient like some of the ones on here. Some of his patients he treats as just a $$$.

So good or bad we are all entitled to our opinion.

Glad he worked for you but during my appts he was too busy taking all you other girls calls. And yes I got to hear many patients medical records. To me I could never use a dr that is that careless.

Not to mention he will continue to bill you for things he never should have. I had to fight for a year with them over money. So yes I was just a pay day for him.

in effort to not Chat Icon i just wanted to add that i have no problem with people sharing their stories and opinions and experiences. it's having no respect in sharing of your opinion that irks me and what makes this board tense. she went straight to name calling in the first sentence of her post. that's not cool. no matter what doctor you use, especially for such a sensitive topic, there are ALWAYS good or bad. i think everyone here knows and expects that. just be tactful and respectful in your sharing. otherwise regardless of intention it just comes off bitter and angry (which we are also entitled too, but less likely to properly convey your message). he's an innovator, love him or hate him, its a FACT. she flat out called him a fraud in a room full of people with literal proof that his unconventional methods work (as well as supporting evidence with similar foundations and protocols utilized by other successful well known practices like SIRM and the ever-popular Dr. Kofinas). and thats why people get upset and defensive, its not the fact that she had a negative experience, its how she conveys her message.

in order to maintain a happy place where people can share their opinions and experiences, you have to do that with respect to people with differing opinions. i know there are lots of people out there who may differ from my opinion, and that's totally cool, im sure they have their reasons. i could have gone on to pick apart her post but i didn't because everything i wanted to say sounded downright ugly. i think i said what i had to say about it with the least possible amount of personal attacking that i could have. there is a ton more about her complaints that IN MY OPINION are ridiculous (don't get me started but discouraging kids in the waiting room = unreasonable and totally self absorbed <-- see how ugly that sounds?!) but i wont because at that point its just my opinion vs her opinion which is attacking, counterproductive and lacking of any sort of resolve anyway. i dont see how thats helpful to anyone.

all of that being said im not sure why anyone would see him if they werent specifically looking for an unconventional approach. if you are looking for cookie cutter there are lots of REs that take insurance. this is coming from me - when i started seeing him originally all i thought i needed was clomid; (but he also took insurance then - of which i had 0 coverage anyway). he's paving the way for the future of new doctors in the developing field of reproductive immunology. i hope one day all the naysayers see his work come to fruition in the form of standardized programs and protocols that follow his ground breaking research. it is my only true hope that all the drama now just leads to a future with less infertility, less pregnancy loss, and global lower risks of pregnancy complications. perspective people; if more healthy mommies and babies come out of this, who cares if he takes a patient phone call or eats breakfast at his desk while you're there...

I don't think anyone starts this journey looking for a doctor with a cookie cutter approach. We research, gather facts, opinions, more research and make decisions based on all this, finances etc.
with that being said, for the many who have had success with Braverman there are those who didn't. And I AM the one who started this thread and asked for BOTH sides. I honestly didn't think it would get this heated and dramatic.
Braverman may be unconventional and work for many but not for all. And I respect both sides of the coin no matter how blunt the opinions are.
There are many that love my current doctor and others that don't care for him. I love him based on what he has done for me so far, my personal experience. I can't fault others for not feeling the same way I do, no matter how negative their opinion. Braverman is very successful and he will continue to be despite some that are not a fan of his etc.
Moving on from this, I hope everyone on here, including myself, gets the miracle of a having baby, no matter what doctor they use.

I think the reason some of us are getting defensive is bat there is a big difference in

I was not a fan of his personality,he was too expensive, said too long etc

Compared to questioning his ethics, morals and integrity

There is a big difference but I still to this day kick myself for not saying to him in my appt "hey you just violated HIIPA laws by talking about multiple patients in my appt.

So yes I def question his ethics and I think everyone else would too.

As a medical professional you take and oath and he violated laws.

I took an oath when I became an attorney and him talking about penitents with my and my DH sitting right there would be like be violating a atty/client privilege. I could lose my license or at the very least be brought up in front of the ethics board.

Okay, a few things...

* I have never been a patient of his, so those insinuating that I wrote my response out of bitterness are flat wrong. In fact I would recommend doctors who were not successful for me (Mukherjee, Davis) and I'm in a really good place in my situation (which is promising after much trial and error and going across the country for innovation) so thanks for the sensitivity and concern.

* My information comes from the very real and traumatic experiences of women in my support group and women I've grown close to on Resolve. My ONLY loyalty is to women (not doctors) and I get mad when I see people I care about hurt by irresponsible practices. It's insensitive to leave a patient waiting until 11 at night for a beta. I can go to a Sunrise and my results are in by 4pm. What excuse is there for that? It's not sensitive to do nothing to discourage children at an RPL practice. These women suffer from real PTSD and children are a trigger, which is why RMA and Cornell both post signs about making child care arrangements (Obvi there are days when this proves impossible but his office has an open-door policy). And it's not responsible to have a woman with AMA keep coming back for RIF treatment without doing anything else to investigate causes in the embryo. Those practices offend me because they hurt people.

* FTR I was worked up by a top RI in Chicago so my issue isn't with Lovenox and IVIG. My issue is with him throwing anything at the wall to see if it sticks, particularly since the goal is to conceive children and it's important to know what the consequences may be for the life that is created.

* I don't respect him. Some of you will just have to get over that. I posted what I posted because I felt there was a counterbalance needed for the cheering section so women have both sides.

P.S. This was typed on my phone and is probably full of errors. I am away and trying to relax so I won't be coming back to this thread.

Re: Deleting..

After years of IF, what I learned is that each doctor is different. Each approach is different. Every patient is different.

You cannot compare your situation with that of another. Sometimes you find a dr. who you really click with but his/her approach doesn't work. Or sometimes you find a dr. who has zero bedside manner, speaks limited English, and gives you the most wonderful gift of twins!

Each person's journey is different. May each of you be blessed along the continuum.

And I just want to add that Bookworm has been one of the most helpful and supportive girls during my journey here on the IF boards. She must truly feel strong about her experience to give a response like that and I respect it.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion without some people becoming so defensive. I am a new poster, but I have read these forums for quite a while now. In fact these forums have been very helpful to me. Yet, I find it ironic that some people who are singing this doctors praises now have had some difficulties in the past with this same office and dr. I remember when a previous poster on this very same thread called him a "drug hog". Another poster on this same thread who sang his praises had waited for over an hour in the room for him while he and his staff met with a previous patient who brought Starbucks. He and his staff ate and drank coffee in the waiting room in front of her husband while she waited in the room to see him. Another poster on this same thread who glorified him did write that the doctor knew one of her family members. Perhaps that is why she was treated so differently than some other patients. Not all of his patients get donated meds from his office. Anyone is going to love the doctor that helped them get pregnant. However there were times when these posters who love him now did feel compelled to write in the infertility forum about when they were not treated so well. That is great that people had good experiences.Yet, if people do not have good experiences with a doctor, they should be able to express their opinions freely, without any repercussions.

How convenient that you're so "new" and yet have such a vivid memory of what some fairly active posters said. Chat Icon Chat Icon

To the OP: I hope you find the right doctor for yourself. Best of luck Chat Icon

How convenient that any time someone gives an unfavorable review about this doctor, people immediately come on here to attack them. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Those who glorified him should have also included the times when they were not so happy with this doctor as they had previously posted. Then, it would not be considered such a biased opinion and people would believe them more. Also, it is none of anyone's business about how "new" I am to posting on here. I said that I have been reading theses forums for some time. You have yourself a nice day! Chat Icon

I was one of those who Dr.B did not work for......at least not in the way he intended. When it came to a point (3 years later) that I switched to a new practice, Dr.B told me he didn't care who got me my miracle baby, he just wanted to see it happen. Well, then as luck would have it, I did get pregnant with my now 10.5 month old DS. All along my pregnancy, I remained in contact with Dr.B. In fact, at one point I had a scary bleeding episode at the start of my second trimester. I emailed Dr.B and within hours he met me at his office on a Sunday when they are not even open so we could check on my baby.

He may not have worked for me as a doctor, but he truly is a genuinely good man and a zillion percent not money hungry. I think advertising is smart because it helps get his name out. I've since recommended him to people, even though he is not the doctor who made me a success story.

Re: Deleting..

I am a huge fan of dr B. I truly believe he is a good and decent person most of all and truly cares about his patients. Yes, he is the one who helped me conceive and carry my son till 39w. I 100% agree that he overmedicates, but this is a path I chose to follow after suffering a miscarriage due to negligence of another very popular dr on these boards ( SIRM anyone? Hell no). Will he give you a medication that is not safe and may harm fetus? No. Will he give you a medication that is known for positive outcomes when used in pregnancy even it is not directly indicated for it? Yes. And I thank him for that. I thank him for his knowledge of research and clinical studies and for being proactive.

As much as I love dr B, I hate SIRM. Very careless and dismissive approach.

Good luck to all struggling with IF.. dark road with light aheadChat Icon Chat Icon
