Dehydrated
Oh boy,
Work finally caught up with me. I wound up in L&D for cramping and they told me it was dehydration. They told me I need to get 20 glasses a day! Impossible since I'm not allowed to carry water with me - it's hospital policy...I'm outta ideas here. I was proud of myself getting in 10 a day this week!
How do you stay hydrated?
ETA: Oh, and I had a teeny bit of sugar and ketones in my urine - please let it not be diabetes! I'm buying myself a glucometer off ebay now...

Re: Dehydrated
I wonder myself how one can possibly drink 20 glasses of water (1 gallon). I pee every 45 min as it is. I can't see drinking any more!!

Re: Dehydrated
I understand policies and all, but not being able to carry water when you are pregnant is a serious issue, if you ask me. I mean, just look at where it landed you today! I have no answers because I don't know the nature of your job, however, if I were you, I'd really figure something out because dehydration is serious. Drink up!!!

I agree. Not drinking the water is not even an option anymore...look at where it got you. Maybe with a drs note they will make an exception. Not sure the capacity of your job at the hospital. I was a social worker in a hospital and we had those nursing station. Perhaps leave a bottle over there? or maybe someone will let you use their office. I would have welcomed anyone in mine.

Re: Dehydrated
That happened to me but I didn't go to the hospital. I would buy the 1 liter bottles of poland spring and fill it up twice after I drank it and I would try to finish the water that I needed before I drank anytyhing else for the day like juices. If I didn't have the liter bottles I would buy the 24oz sport pack and have 4 of those.

The ketones is an indication of dehydration. The sugar in your urine is probably because you had something sweet earlier. I wouldn't worry about that just keep drinking!

Re: Dehydrated
I wouldn't buy a glucometer until you need it. Also, my insurance covered most of mine.

Re: Dehydrated
The funny thing is I AM a doctor. The hospital approval committee doesn't allow it. It is an infection control issue thing - Do as we say, not as we do I guess.
I'm going to try hiding 1 liter bottles in administration areas and drink away whenever I can...I'll let you know how it goes. I got in 16 glasses on Saturday (at work) and I felt like it was a real struggle...

Re: Dehydrated
Well I work in an ofice, so I can eat or drink any time I want. I buy the biggest bottle of Poland Spring and FORCE myself to have one done by my lunch at 12:30. Then I fill it up with the filtered water at my job and try to drink another one before the end of the work day. But, sometimes I only drink the one and have a few sips from the 2nd one.
It REALLy is hard to drink a lot. When I was 4 days overdue with my daughter, I dehydrated myself into labor. So be very careful....

Re: Dehydrated
Ugh! Your work situation sounds like it's going to be very hard for you to get the right amount in. I'm sorry - I have no suggestions except to just have as much as you can when you're not at work. Your idea about keeping it in in the office sounds good too. I hope it gets easier for you.

Re: Dehydrated
Hi, what kind of doctor are you? I have been in Stonybrook University, Northport, LIJ in Plainview, NUMC, many others- and I have seen the doctors on staff with bottles of water. Most of them kept them by the nursing station but I also saw some carrying it with them- even doing rounds with interns. And Ive seen interns with them.
Best of luck to you, and feel better.

Re: Dehydrated
I'm at two of those mentioned. JHACHO should be coming so the rules are being followed to the letter! I don't want to be the one that gets a citation...
