DD has had a wet cough for two months! Help!!

I've been taking DD to the dr like once a week for almost 2 months now. It started in October with an ear infection. Cleared that up, but the wet cough continued. Then it turned into bronchitis. After TWO rounds of antibiotics that finally cleared up, and for about 4 days it seemed her cough had disappeared. Then it came back! Dr keeps saying it's allergies. But she can't get the mucus up so it keeps turning into other things. Last week I was told to give Claritin everyday.... I have been and it just seems like it's getting worse again. I'm so stressed out over it!! Im calling again in the morning, but wondering if anyone has dealt with this? Or other things I can try?? Has Claritin proved to not work for your child? What does work?? Does this sound like allergies?? I never had allergies so I have no idea.

Eta: she's 2, and she's never had a fever in the two months. Nothing else is different besides her cough.

Yep.. which is why we keep her on Allergy meds EVERY single DAY. Because if not that post nasal drip will cause irritation and can cause infection.

We give her Claritin in the AM and Benadryl when she's home from school because we like to control the dosage.

Zyrtec did nothing for her
Allegra was ok

Really you need to try them all for a few days before you know for sure. In NY I coughed with my allergies. in TX I sneeze! LOL just how it is.

I hated giving her meds every day but the doc said it was MUCH better than treating and infection and if she did catch a cold they also really help curb the suffering.

Best of luck.

Do you have pets? This happened to our first DC, turned out he was allergic to our cat.

My two kids take allergy meds daily 365 days a year bc the slightest irritation turns into post nasal drip & the cough lingers. Zyrtec works the best for us. I give it at night. If they are having severe symptoms I'll do 1/2 doze Zyrtec in am & full did of Benadryl at night to "dry" up the cough

I also run a humidifier in their rooms during the night & we just purchase a whole house humidifier per our ped suggestion. The dry air from the heat will cause flare ups.

Apple cider vinegar is amazing for clearing up congestion and mucus!

Dd is the same. Dr kept saying allergies and so I took her to an allergist and she tested negative for everything both via the prick test and a blood test from the arm. It's really annoying bc when she coughs it definitely at least partly from post nasal drip bc it happens at night and she'll have fits. I find what minimizes it is by running the humidifier nightly. Spraying her with saline every am and pm religiously. Elderberry syrup every day and up to 3x a day when it starts to get bad (keeps her immune system up so she doesn't get sick).

I also have a nebulizer when from she had pneumonia last year and I'll give her a dose of albuterol do she sounds bad. Usually 1-2x and it stops.

I have a ped allergist I used if you need contact info. I probably wouldn't give allergy meds until you had her tested to see if she actually has allergies!

I do have a dog. Had him before she was born. I'd be devastated if she was allergic! I can't even think of that as a possibility right now.

Any reccs for an allergist in suffolk??
