Cough medicine for 3 1/2yr old?
This isn't for me, but asking for someone else.
Anyone doc ever give them a cough medicine for their pre-schooler?

Not prescription, but he did recommend Delsyn over the counter for my son when he was that age. It's not really a "medicine" it's only supposed to stop the coughing.

My ped allows Robitussin DM. MOF I gave it to my 2 yr old tonight before bed.

my son is coughing and i gave it to him tonight also! but wanted to see what others do....kind of settle a debate  LOL

No... the only thing my ped has ever said to give them when coughing is the Robitussin that is JUSt an expectorant, nothing to "stop" the cough. There is asthma in our family though.
Personally, I am not a fan of giving kids medicine. Thats JMO though.

The Robitussin DM is a cough suppressant and expectorant. I'm not a fan of any kind of medicine and I will only give something if I feel like my child will be up all night uncomfortable and truly needs it.

My ped wont OK any kind of cough syrup for DD - she says it isnt a good idea til they are older (DD is 4.5) and she is even more so against it because DD has asthma and the combo isnt good between cough syrups and asthma.

I have - I had to ask the pharmasist..."hypothetically speaking, if the old rules were still in effect, based on (cold/cough/age/weight) what would you give.

our doc will give nothing. the pharmasist will not rec. anything either...just to use cool mist and vicks.

huge fan of the cool mist.....my friends and family actually think i am obsessed b/c i recommend it to everyone!!!
right now DS has a very wet sounding cough

I don't like giving mine any (if it's a regular cough).. I prefer a spoonful or honey mixed with a little lemon..
Cough medicine makes my kids wild.

I use cough and cold 4 kids, it is all natural made by Hylands its all natural and works really well. My DD is 3.5

My pediatrician doesn't recommend any cough syrups (DS is 3). Says they don't really work anyway.
She recommends honey (for children over 1), humidifier and saline spray if his nose is stuffy.
