contact lens wearers

i just started wearing
them and i am trying so hard to get use to them... i keep getting the solution stuck between my eye and the lens. today i so far got the left eye to work better but my right eye it took me a good half hourChat Icon and when i got it fially the first time i had to rip it out because it was stinging like crazy.... so i took a break and let it sit in the soltion for a few mintues.. then tried again and right now it is a little better with a litte sting.. so my question is this normal? or should i take it out?

thanks

also how long did it take you to get use to them?Chat Icon

I have been wearing contacts for nearly 20 years, but I remember it took a while to get used to them. Just keep trying, it gets easier.

Re: contact lens wearers

hmm, the stinging bothers me. The solution between your lens and the eye should run out when you blink a couple of times.

Was the right one inside out maybe?Chat Icon

Re: contact lens wearers

I started wearing contacts at age 13. It didn't take me too long especially since I was so eager to get them (being I wore glasses since age 7).

That being said, I still sometimes get a sting. Some helpful tips:

ALWAYS insert with clean hands
rinse with solutions after its out of the case
use a multi-purpose solution NOT saline. In fact, many doctors don't use saline at all.

Sadly I break all these rules. I've been so ghetto I've used water to rinse them when I dont' have anything else

Guilty of that one too.

OOH and make sure that you use a towel that does not cause lint. For the longest time I felt like I had a problem with my right contact. It turned out that I would dry my hands on a towel after putting in the left one that left lint on the lens, and the lint would get caught in my eyeChat Icon

Re: contact lens wearers

Maybe you need a more water soluable contact. My contact is made of 60% water and my eyes love it b/c I no longer have as much redness or dryness.

Plus, it takes a bit of time to get used to it....give it some time.

Also, one idea. Rub the contacts in new solution on the palm of your hand before putting them in your eye.

Re: contact lens wearers

Janet,
I just started wearing them the last five years. Im 43. I never wore them because they just were never comfortable. I always knew they were in my eyes. I love mine now. Maybe you need to try a different brand. You shouldn't know your contacts are in.

same here. have patience - before you know it, you'll have them in and out in seconds and w/o a mirror or anythng.

In order to get the solution/air out between my contact and eye, after I have it on my eye I'll look down and up before letting go of my eyelids. The movement of the contact up and down on my eye makes it adhere better, and adjusts it to the right spot.

Re: contact lens wearers

They take a little while to get used to...just be patient and fiddle with them till they feel comfortable in your eye.
They shouldn't "sting" though...they will feel scratchy if they are inside out or dirty though.

Good Luck Janet

Re: contact lens wearers

i only use saline im allergic to something in the multipurpose ones...
but i have the 2 week ones so they dont build up much over that time to clean them

totally helps with the stinging

just make sure u are putting them in the right side up... and it will slowly get comfy .. some people take a day or two.. others a few weeks.. just hang in there!

Re: contact lens wearers

When I first started wearing them, I used to cry because I had such a hard time getting them in.

Now, I can just pop them in without looking

Re: contact lens wearers

It takes a while to get used to them. I say, if one is stinging a lot when you put it in its either inside out or dirty, rinse it out and try it again. Once you get the hang of it, it will be easier.

Re: contact lens wearers

In the beginning I had the WORST time with the contacts.
A trick I learned from my friend is to store them in the multi-purpose solution then I rinse them with the saline solution before putting them in my eye. It REALLY reduces the sting.
