Coctail party attire

I was invited to a cocktail party at a manhattan apt. It's a birthday party, and there will be entertainment (including scenes from my play). I asked what the dres code is, but I work with all men, so...

they said "dress nice. not too fancy"

care to translate?

I don't think I have anything to wear...

a black dress is always appropriate

if you don't want to wear a dress, a pair of trousers, heels and a nice top would be ok IMO

Re: Coctail party attire

a cute short dress.. a camisole with gauchos/dress pants and a blazer..

just go somewhere between jeans and a dress you'd wear to a wedding and i think you're fine

Re: Coctail party attire

I don't own a dress that isn't floor length.

Would pinstripe pants and a black sweater with heels work?

I also have a pink cashmere sweater.
