child with astigmatism

i am so confused. my 4 YO just got glasses. we have known she has astigmatism since her one year vision screening, but hasnt needed glasses until now. the problem is that i have never noticed her squinting or stranining to see, and when we ask her if she sees better with her glasses on she says she sees the same with them on and off. I know she is 4 and that i cant always rely on what she says, but this is still troubling to me. i expected her to put the glasses on and instantly be like "mom i can see!!! its not blurry anymore!"
so my question: do you think this is normal? has your child ever gotten glasses and said something similar?

yes - I think its normal at her age. My dd got them at 4 and didn't seem to notice a difference . But now at 7 she says she can't see without them.

It sounds like a response from a 4 year old, lol. Is it only astigmatism being corrected? How was it determined she needed glasses? I'm wondering if maybe she doesn't notice much of a difference in daylight. I don't correct my astigmatism in my glasses. It's only mild, but the doctor always wants to correct it. I think it causes a slight halo around lights at night.

It's normal. DS got glasses when he was 4yo. He never complained about not being able to see. He never squinted. The only clue we had was one eye started turning a bit because it was his weaker eye.
Even after wearing glasses for awhile, he always said he could see the same with and without his glasses.

Anyway, we just got him a new pair at 5yo because his astigmatism got a bit worse. As soon as he put the new glasses on he said that he could see SO much better.

I think young children who wear glasses just acclimate to not being able to see 20/20 and don't know any better.

I have an astigmatism, and so does my 5 year old. He doesn't need glasses yet, but I do. I don't notice a huge difference when my glasses are on or off. I wear them depending on the day and whether or not I have a headache. His opthalmologist said that your sight with an astigmatism can change daily. I wouldn't worry- sounds like me, and I'm old enough to fully convey my thoughts!!
