Re: Celebrating Hanukkah with Christmas
You have some great ideas on here, but I just want to say that its really thoughtful of you to even think about doing something for them! I am Jewish and it seems most people do not even think about how to incorporate Hanukkah (granted this is the first year in a while they fall on the same day)

I would suggest NOT making the Chanukah Gingerbread house. To *me its like making a "chanukah bush".
I mean they will enjoy it, they are kids. But I have never been a fan of making Christmas type traditions into Chanukah traditions, KWIM?
I would suggest you ask the family to bring their menorah and ask them to light it. That's what I am doing at my girlfriends house.
I agree with the gingerbread house. To me that makes chanukah more x mas
Not being snarky, but as a Catholic, I find nothing Christmasy about a Gingerbread House. It has no significance in the Christian faith...it's a house made of cookies that you decorate with candy???? To me it's just a seasonal thing.
To me it was always made at school etc for Christmas. I can see it just being a winter seasonal thing, but from my experience it feels more like a Christmas thing.
I didst say it to be offensive so I hope it didnt come off that way :)

You weren't offensive at all!!! Just as a Christian, we never considered them a real Christmas thing for lack of better explanation. It's a winter activity...I guess I thought Jewish people made them too! I actually just made one for the first time in 20 + years with my mom!
