Car Insurance Question...w/an Update to my ridiculous car accident saga...
Got into an accident (the person in front of me crushed the front of my car, reversing at a red light)...
I placed a claim with her insurance company (AIG)....
Adjuster came, car went to the shop, $3,500 in damages...
I call a week later to follow up with AIG...they tell me the woman is now claiming that I drove into her...I ask advice, they tell me to call my insurance company and place a claim, so that the insurance companies can battle it out...
I place a claim with my insurance company (Geico)....
Adjuster came to the shop where the car is, and agreed to the $3,500 estimate...
Geico is writing a check to me and the repair shop for $2,500...$1,000 is my deductible (out of my pocket.)
I called AIG today to follow-up...they agreed to agree at 50%...so they're sending me a check for $1,750.
What do I do? The $1,750 covers my deductible...leaving $750 left-over...do I have to give that to Geico, or do I keep it?

I would think that they would sent it to Geico themselves, but maybe not. If you are worried that they are not communicating, call Geico and see if they have the latest update.

I know! I am relieved to finally getting my car back...it's been THREE WEEKS!
Oh, and the best comment I've heard so far about this situation, was from the Adjuster stating "Ma'am, for you to have driven into her, you would have had to be driving sideways"....I wanted to jump through the phone and hug him!

You can only make 1 claim for damages, either with Geico or with AIG. If you make it with Geico, you will pay your deductible in full to the shop and get half of it back from Geico once they settle it with AIG at 50%.
If you make the claim with AIG, you will be responsible for whatever they don't pay, so it sounds like $1750 would be your responsibility.
I would make the claim with Geico, you will be paying less out of pocket, unless you are concerned about your rates increasing, which depends on a variety of factors.
You can't accept money from both. Eventually you will get caught and owe that back to them, so you have to pick whatever option is best.
