its a district that is spoken highly of. the district line is several hundred feet from my house. I have seen & heard about homeowners protesting their taxes & having hearings about new large home developments that would affect their district.
The taxes are high for suffolk, i think it stems from the shoreham nuclear power plant & large rebates the area received in the 70's & 80's.

the taxes are very high there. do you know if you are north of 25a and walking distance to beach do you need flood insurance?

the taxes are high because there used to be virually no taxes when the power plant was supplementing the area and all the new schools and other things for the community were built. The district was falling apart for a bit because the residents were refusing to pay higher taxes, but I think they have straightened things out.

I agree with what Lauren said, its because of the powerplant.
I do think the taxes are extremely high there though.

my FSIL has a large 4 bedroom Colonial on a half acre and pays $8500 before star - i dont think thats very high...

no that is low for that area. but I have seen many of those prices south of 25 a it seems lower but near the beach it is high or north of 25 a.
are they north or south? Im going by what I saw on mlsli

A good friend of mine is a principal there! The test scores are very high for the area and it's a great district. Some unique programs--the middle school does not have a cafeteria and students eat with mentor teachers.

thanks for posting this, so far all I find are 10k and up for 550 and up houses in shoreham. I will keep looking, thanks again.

My sister and her family moved there last year from Babylon Village and they love it. My nieces were in private school before and they really like their new school in Wading River. My sister is very impressed with the contact from the teachers too.
She's thrilled with her taxes - they went from 15K for a 1/3 acre in Babylon to $9K for an acre in Wading River.
