can someone recommend a group or organization that will
provide support, resources and assistance to someone new thinking about adoption.
please do not recommend adoptive parents. I tried to contact them several times

TY, do you mean the one in suffolk? I emailed them with no reply. They do not have a contact # and I'm not on FB and I am told they are. I am finding all the adoption groups very disappointing and not supportive at all.

They meet once a month in Babylon I think. I Haven't gone to one yet but yes I've contacted the organizer on facebook. I can let you know when the next one is.

I belong to a support group that does meetings each month and the next one will have an adoption attorney join them. when I started the adoption process many years ago, I joined everything to help me! APC was an amazing resource and then the peer led group helped support me during the journey.

good luck. I did not like this group which was why I was looking for a different one. Not helpful, never call back etc. I like the a mommy's angels one in suffolk. VERY supportive.
please let me know your thoughts about the group in Wantagh.

just general information and support. For months I tried contacting them with nothing in return. The phone they have posted does not work. I was disgusted with them and lack of everything.
I met with mommy angels and they are great but far for me to travel. People (families) I spoke to at the angels meeting did not give me positive feed back about Adoptive parents
Glad you found them helpful. Perhaps I can try and attend one of their meetings. Mommy angels does not charge to attend or get info. No membership
I will say, Im feeling hopeless about this process much like it was with IVF

Not that I know of ... That group was started by a person in Nassau ... But mostly stays in the Babylon area cause they have people from mastic and queens/Brooklyn go.

definitely attend a meeting, theres no headquarters or anything like that just a group of people that have been through it...people come with their happy and sad stories, speakers, attorneys consultants and just a nice group of people to lean on.
