C-Section Moms- did you have postpartum blues or depression?

Just wondering.....i know it sounds stupid but i wonder sometimes if the rate of PP blues is higher for women who had a C-section rather than a V-birth? if you don't mind answering....thank you! i had a C and bad blues-although not full blown depression. i am petrified of having it again.

Re: C-Section Moms- did you have postpartum blues or depression?

I only had C-section with my second and no blues.. but with my first I did and had vaginal.

eta: just wanted to clarify.. my blues with first dd, was more of missing being pregnant and hormonal... not Post partum.

I had a c-section and no blues.

I was pretty disappointed and cried easily when BFing wasn't working out as I planned, but I don't think it was PP.

I had no depression about the baby however, I was pretty miserable about the surgery. It was just a long, uncomfortable recovery and I was frustrated because taking care of my DD was harder because I was in so much pain. I dread having to have a C-section again. Chat Icon

I had a c and had days where I could cry for absolutely nothing. But I wouldn't say it was the blues or PPD. I really think it was lack of sleep.

I had a v-birth and am experiencing some PPD now... but I think it is more due to the fact that I am leaving DS & going back to work in 2 wks... Chat Icon

Re: C-Section Moms- did you have postpartum blues or depression?

I had a C-sec and have the baby blues every now and then.

My first 3-4 weeks after were the worst though because I had a BAD allergic reaction to both the adhesive around the incision and then the Augmentin prescribed to clear it up. Had hives ALL OVER my body so it wasnt the best first few days of motherhood hence lost of crying and depression.

Re: C-Section Moms- did you have postpartum blues or depression?

Yes. I had terrible post-partum depression. I attributed it to three things: 1)my hormones being out of whack from bf-ing 2)my pre-disposition to depression already and 3)my c-section. I say my c-section because I think it threw my body into a state of shock almost from not really being ready to have the baby. Normally, your body would release hormones and what not to signal labor to start. I had a planned c-section, so that never happened to my body, I was just thrown into labor, so to speak. So, in some cases, yes, I think c-sections can play a factor in it, but I think my first two reasons were the main ones.
