BTDT moms- please give hope to the sleep deprived!

I know there are a bunch of us new moms anxiously awaiting a full nights sleep. I think it would be great to see that there were others who have made it through the sleep deprivation. Lately it seems like everyone has babies sleeping great very early on but I know not all the DC on here could have been such great sleepers. When did your DC start sleeping longer hours?

It depends by what you mean by longer hours.

DS was sleeping several hours but woke up 1-2 times per night. The first stretch was 5 hours. Woke up then slep again.

He did not do full nights until he was about 6 months old.

Re: BTDT moms- please give hope to the sleep deprived!

my DS was a terrible sleeper for the first 3 months. i was BFing and he was eating every 1.5-2 hrs...i was seriously so sleep deprived!!
He was also so colicky!

then at 3 months i stopped BFing and got one of those incline sleepers and by 4 months he was sleeping at least 6 hrs straight through.
Now, at almost 10 months he sleeps at least 10 hrs straight through!!!!
SOOO - i know you are sleep deprived now, but I promise it will get better!!!

DD was never a good sleeper. She didn't sleep through the night until 6-7 months when I stopped BFing and started giving her food.

DS started sleeping from 5-6 hours a week ago at 5 weeks.

I'm crossing my fingers that this will last and that one day I will get a full 8 hours!!

Pretty recently, at 10 weeks. Don't worry- there IS light (or sleep) at the end of the tunnel! I'm pretty shocked by the poll of those who answered 6+ mos!

10 weeks is great, lucky you! Actually, I'm very surprised how many answered 2-3 months. My DS is 11 weeks tomorrow and I think we've got at least a few weeks if not longer to go. He shows no signs of sleeping longer than 3-4 hours. I hope we're not looking at another 3 months this!

Mine started around 3.5 months, but it wasn't perfect. Around 4 months he had several nights where he woke again (growth spurt, and he needed food).
Then around 5 months he had some bad nights also.

But I know several moms who had babies who did not sleep through the night until 6 months. So it varies.

Oh, I was going to add. DS is a terrible daytime napper, so I think this is partially why he slept through the night--he was exhausted.

Ds started to sleep 5 hour stretches at night at about 3 days old. He eats every 2.5-3 hours during the day, we put him down at midnight for the night, and he usually wakes me around 5-515

Re: BTDT moms- please give hope to the sleep deprived!

DS just started sleeping 6-8 hours at night about a week and a half ago at 6.5 weeks. Fingers crossed he keeps it up! He slowly progressed up to that--started out at 2-3 hours then all of a sudden went to 5 hours then 6 and now has done 8 the last 2 nights. My mom says I was the same way.

DS has been swadled with the Swadle Me since day one. Maybe this helps him?? I have been reading Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child. My SIL swears by it. She has 3 under 3.5 years old and they are all wonderful sleepers (at night and naps) and are so happy and alert when they are awake.

Hope it starts changing for you soon!!

Re: BTDT moms- please give hope to the sleep deprived!

DD started doing about a 6 hour stretch at night around 5 weeks, then all of a sudden a month later (right about when I went back to work), she started only sleeping between 4-5 hours at night. Just recently at 4 1/2 months she went back to doing a 6-7 hour stretch at night.
