1. How old was your ds?
2-1/2 when he poopy trained. He was regular, every night after dinner, so we made him sit on the potty, gave him a lollipop or piece of candy when he went and BAM, he trained no problem at all. On his 3rd birthday, we decided to go all out, all underwear, no pull-ups or diapers anymore. He pee pee trained in 3 days, totally.

2. What did you do to get him use the potty?
See above for poops. Pee pee was much harder. Took him more than 6 months, but what worked was just going to underwear and not looking back. Yes, he had accidents, but was trained in 3 days. What really got him into peeing was using potty targets and he liked that "game".

3. How did you know they were ready?
He never showed any signs, except being regular for poop. That helped. When he did fully train, that was it, even at night, he's fully trained to get up and pee. No pull-ups or diapers since he turned 3.

Re: BTDT moms or in the process of trying to potty train (Boys mommies)

We started introducing the potty at around 2 years and a few months. No pressure at all, but he'd go #1 when we asked him to. Otherwise he thought nothing of going in his diaper. He refused to do #2.

We did that for a while, then he started seeing other kids at his toddler program asking the teacher to use the bathroom. He was intrigued and I latched onto that interest and pressed the issue.

We did several days of staying at home, with him au naturale. The #2 was still a challenge but he had a spot he'd always hide to "go", so we just put the little potty there and that worked. We transitioned the potty to the bathroom shortly after.

After a few days we went right to underwear, with diapers at night. He always woke up dry so we switched to underwear all the time shortly after.

We did a bit of bribery and a reward chart. He was really into Thomas then so I stockpiled trains and he'd get one after every couple of stars on the chart.

Overall, we had very few accidents and he was completely trained in a week. It just takes a lot of reminding.

Good luck!

1. How old was your ds?

Nate is 2 weeks older than Jared

2. What did you do to get him use the potty?

We started asking him for the last 3 months if he had to go to the potty. We got one of the seats that goes over the toilet and would put him on it every once and a while. His daycare also puts him on the potty so I think that is helping. Over the last week he's been telling us when he had to pee instead of waiting til he's done it in his diaper. Today was a good day bc he peed in the pull-up only once.

3. How did you know they were ready?

He started taking his diaper off and asking to sit on the toilet.

1. How old was your ds?
3 yo- fully trained with an occasional accident
2 yo - we introduced it but fully started at 2.5 yo

2. What did you do to get him use the potty?
We used a timer & put him on every 20 minutes. He got the concept pretty quickly. The main thing we used was a huge amount of cheering, the potty dance. What really did it was he was told he could take swiming lessons when he was 3 if he was fully potty trained. Going cold turkey on the pull-ups was key.

3. How did you know they were ready?
He was waking up dry in the mornings & would tell me he went pee-pee right before he did.

About 3.5 until no accidents. He is very stubborn, plus he often starts things later than some kids, then excels when he starts. Once he decided he was ready (we tried various methods starting around 2.5), there were essentially no accidents (once a month, maybe), even overnight.

For him, bribing didn't work (stickers, matchbox cars, etc), praise didn't work, reading to him didn't work, pull-ups didn't work, training pants and plastic underwear didn't help. He knew he was going, he just wanted to be stubborn. I think having a sister finally pushed him. His baby sister had diapers, and he didn't want to be a baby anymore....

He does what he wants, when he wants. But, once he decides something, he's into it 100%.
