BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
What do you ladies use for your newborns' diapers? I'm not sure what usual protocol is but I want to have everything ready for when baby arrives. I am 36 weeks pregnant. Do you just change the diaper and not use any ointments or powders or do you always use an ointment? I really have no clue. TIA!

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
With DS, the hospital supplied little tubes of petroleum jelly (vaseline). That is all we ever used on DS, unless he had an irritation or diaper rash - then I used balmex.
We tried Desitin, but it never kicked the irritation for him - only Balmex worked.
I also used (on occassion) Boudreaux's Butt Paste - b/c I had a few sample packs - it worked great!
ETA: I never put powder (cornstarch one only) on his bottom - I used that under his arms, neck and thighs. Still do in summer time and he's 5

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
I swear by Baby Aquaphor. I used it on my son forever and I applied it with every change since he had an extremely sensitive butt! I am also getting the Triple Paste ready which is great for more serious diaper rashes which I hope we wont experience. And I use Pampers Sensitive Wipes (fragrance free) for wiping...the best! At the beginning, if you discover that your baby has a very sensitive skin, I would rinse the wipes under warm water before wiping, that way no irritation occurrs.
I rarely used powder. Only if there was a heat rash in between the chunky thighs or around the neck area and not until he was older, never when he was a newborn.

I use A&D after each change to prevent diaper rash. If you're having a boy and doing a circumcision, you may want to have something on hand to treat that (like bacitracin).

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
With my DD we used Boudreauxs Butt Paste, it was awesome. On the rare occasion she had a rash the BEST was Triple Paste, cleared it right up.

I was told to use Vaseline for his circ so I have a tub of that already.
Thanks so much, ladies!!!!

Gold bond powder that's all I've used and DS is 2. In the first month we it didn't use any thing except Vaseline for circ.
He has never had a rash besides minor redness

BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
I have a girl and I use A & D. I have Butt Paste which I like when she gets a rash and I recently used Desitin when she had a very bad rash...

I had 2 boys and used petroleum jelly that comes in tubes at cvs for the circumcision, and triple paste for rashes. I swear by triple paste!

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
the pediatrician in the hospital recommended A & D ointment and that is all we have ever used. Works great.

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
In the beginning we used Vaseline on his circumcision.
I only use diaper cream if he has a diaper rash or after he poops - since its red in that area. I use Mustela or Butt Paste.
Otherwise, I just wipe him clean and put a diaper on. I don't like to use it if I don't have to.

A&D only. Never have used baby powder and DD is 19 m/o. For really bad diaper rash (which has only happened to us once, actually, her whole life), I use aveeno diaper rash cream or butt paste and it just goes away. I don't know when you use powder or why. I feel like that's old fashioned lol. You can use A&D on a circ as well as long as it's not the white version (the one that's pure vitamin a & vitamin d is fine since it's in a petroleum base same as vaseline).

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
depends on the baby.
ds#1- had to use ointment every time. Such sensitive skin.
ds#2- hardly ever use ointment.

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
I occasionally used A&D or Aquaphor. If DS had a diaper rash, Triple Paste worked best.

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Ointment
when DS first came home, we only used vaseline (he was circumsized in the hospital)
after that was totally healed, we used cornstarch powder only. if there was redness, we would use triple paste.

poweder will keep your child dry, keep the dampness from a diaper away from the skin preventing rashes we always use it, never a rash! Also prevents friction - heat rashes.
