Breast pump covered by insurance?

My friend was saying her Madela PIS was covered by insurance and her doctor literally wrote her an Rx for it.

Anyone know more about this and how to find out if my insurance covers one? (BC/BS)

Re: Breast pump covered by insurance?

It depends on your insurance. My insurance will only cover a rental breastpump if my LO ends up in NICU and I am unable to breastfeed. Call you insurance up and ask.

Wow wish I knew about this last pregnancy.. I would have tried.

I would say call your insurance company and ask.

My insurance BC/BS of California covers it for me but I have a medical condition that requires me to pump between feedings to keep my supply estabilished.
I am actually getting a hospital grade pump.

Call and ask. I have the bare bones BC/BS insurance (and I do mean bare bones). They said they only cover a pump if I had twins, or if baby had to stay in NICU.

I called my insurance early in my pregnancy (Empire), and they do not.

By the way, check Craigslist. I got a double electronic breast pump, factory sealed, for $80.
