Breast lump

I am scheduled next week to have a few lumps removed. The dr. said they aren't cancer, but they need to come out (fibrocystic breast disease).
I've never had surgery before, but am more concerned with being disfigured. The lumps are on the side/bottom of my breast and the dr. said removing the lumps may give my boob a flat appearance on the side. Okay, I can deal with that a little bit, but for those that had the lumps removed, is it a huge difference? The dr. is from breast care specialists, so he sees a lot of lumps. I know I have to have it removed, but I'm afraid I'll have one C boob and one A boob. The one in question is already the smaller out of the two. Any advice?

Re: Breast lump

I had one lump removed a few years ago. There was no visible difference (except for a small scar). It made no difference in the appearance.

I had a great doctor!! The surgery was very easy. I was out within 2 hours and recover was a breeze. I took 2 days off wrok (and then the weekend) and I could have gone back to work the next day. I was fine. I was able to breastfeed my daughter just fine for a whole year without any problems.

I had this done 5 years ago, and the lump was on the top part of my breast. There is no difference in the size of my breast and the scar is hardly there. I had a fantastic doctor in Bethpage. Its a very common surgery.

I had no pain unless the Dr pushed on it. I found it by mistake doing my own exam. My dr tried alteritive cures before removing it. I was taken off my BC pills (which actually were controlling the size of it) then I wason a soy diet. Then no coffee, soda etc. Then finally after a year of alteritives he removed it. The reason he did the alternitives was because he didnt want to jump the gun as many dr's would. I loved him.

One more thing - were you able to take a shower the next day? What about exercise like walking or yoga? Thanks.

No Shower, you will have stiches, and they will be covered, I had to wait 24 hrs. And you know walking maybe, yoga no way. The streching will hurt. You are sore, not immobile but sore. I would ask your doctor what they think.

Re: Breast lump

I had a fribroid removed a few years ago and hardly have a scar. My sister has had several removed in different locations of her breasts and while she has some scarring, they maintained shape.

The surgery wasn't too bad. You are sore for a few days, I don't think you can shower right away but I can't remember. You probably won't want to exercise for at least a week if not more. Its really not bad, just uncomfortable.

You will be fine, good luck!

Re: Breast lump

i wanted to bump this because i am going through the same thing, any more replies would be helpful.

i had an ultrasound today which showed fibrocystic changes and 2 benign lumps.

the doc at the breast facility mentioned either needle draining or surgery. my obgyn will help me decide. until then any thoughts/shared stories would be appreciated. thanks!

Thank you for bumping this! I've been going back and forth with my decision to remove or not remove my lump.

I had had the lump since 2006. Every 6 months I go and get it checked out to make sure it hasn't grown.

I think I may get it removed very soon.

Re: Breast lump

I had a fibroma removed about 9 years ago. It was at the bottom of my breast and almost the size of a golf ball. It was benign but the three opinions I got said get it out, first they said you dont need it in you, and second they will get bigger and be just much harder to remove.

The surgery was fine, little or no pain, just some discomfort with the disolvable stitiches and taping.

I have a slight scar...really no big deal. The shape is fine, the breast is just slightly smaller than the other now...but I am very happy I had it taken out.
