Brat diet AND Bad diaper rash question

So RJ has really bad diarrhea for 2 days..

The Dr is not sure if its an allergic reaction or a stomach virus.

The BRAT diet is- Bananas, Rice, Apple (fresh- not sauce or juice) and toast- right???



Also- does anyone have any diaper rash remedies??? My poor baby who has NEVER EVER had diaper rash has it so so bad (I actually took him to the Dr thinking something was wrong with his (WARNING TMI) testicles, because they are so red they are purple...

The DR gave me something called Buttocks, and it seems to be helping, but not as fast as I would like it too...

Anyone have suggestions how to stop the diarrhea or to get rid of this rash??

The BRAT diet should stop it soon. I would really put emphasis on the Rice and bananas though since those are really binding foods. I don't know if you could try to give him Rice cereal if he would eat that and mix bananas in it.

As far as the diaper rash, did you try triple paste? Emma had it really bad a couple months ago and it worked very quickly. Really overdo it!

I also swear by triple paste.


I put SO MUCH on when she has a rash and it helps a lot.

our newborn came home with a bad diaper rash. the ped recommended baby aquaphor and it cleared it right up!! I still use a little at every diaper change.

I think its applesauce too... Make sure it's the no sugar added stuff cause the sugar can make it worse.

After the kids recent bout w the stomach bug I read that the AAP doesnt recco the BRAT diet anymore They say the normal diet helps the body recover faster...

I hope he feels better ASAP!!!

My DR didnt say anything about the BRAT diet-

He specifically said fresh bananas and fresh apple...

He told me NO applesauce

maybe your ped said whole apples because of the sugar added to applesauce.

For the diaper rash, I use a good deal of the overnight desitin (yes the bad smelling one you smell like for days after) and cover it with Johnson's cornstarch. This seems to do the trick for us.

DDs had this same virus about 2 weeks ago. It lasted 6 days unfortunately.

We used warm paper towels instead of wipes, and got a prescription diaper rash cream which worked wonders. I think its called Nystatin.

I hope he feels better. I know its horrible to watch him in so much pain.

My ped had us mix Mylanta into the Desitin. It's messy and doesn't mix well, but it's supposed to help.

Tip: Mix it in a container you don't plan to ever use again cause you'll never get that stuff off.
