bloodtests at 1-year ped. visit??
My ped. wrote me a prescription for a CBC & lead blood test for my daughter at her 1-year visit. She said she does it for all of her patients.
Has anyone ever heard of this??

I believe it's pretty common. DS had bloodwork at that age.

I believe this was mentioned in a post rcecently and the majority said they did have to do this - - my ped didn tmention anything about it when we took Aly for her 1 yr check up - so I wound up calling them after the fact - they dont send you for these tests till 2 yrs old at my office., I dont know why

Yes- its pretty common- and IMO very important...
DS cried no more than he does for reg. immunizations

It seems to be common there in NY. Here I guess it's not done.
ETA: We have a lot of newer houses here but we do a lead questionairre at every visit one they're mobile. Maybe that's why no blood work.

No, not at all, its such a small amount and with a good plebotomist (sp?), it is over so fast, neither of my kids cried! (the lollipop helped  )

We had the blood drawn right before the 1 year appt so we would have the results.
It wasn't a big deal at all, DS sat on my lap. took about a minute if that....

My son has blood work yearly...that's how they caught his anemia.
Its not as bad as it sounds, they get thru it.

I just got Roman's at his 18 month visit. His Dr. said if there is no family history of anemia he didn't need to have it any earlier.

I actually just took my ds last week, it was disturbing, taking blood from this little person. If you can't handle it bring someone who dosen't mind since your dc has to sit on your lap when it is going on.

We did and had them also do a food allergy test while we were there. DS was amazing! Not a peep out of him!!!!!
