Black tie optional wedding... help!

so DH and I are going to one in a few months... DH was asked to wear a tux (his family member is getting married) ...

my question is (never having gone to a black tie wedding before)... What should I be looking for in a dress?
Do I have to wear floor length gown? Or can I get away with a cocktail length?

I'm starting to look for dresses.. and being plus size (and picky about covering my upper arms) I'm having a hard time finding something!

Floor length is better, particularly if you're going to be in family photos. If you do decide to go with a cocktail dress, it should be very fancy. It's doable though!

Try Igigi.com, Kyonna.com or Nordstroms - both have good plus sized formal options

I've gone to a few black tie weddings in the past year or so and have done TONS of shopping for dresses!

you can get away with cocktail length, especially if its black tie optional, just make sure the dress is dressy enough and not too casual.

100% recommend Nordstoms! I always find something there and I wear a 14/16 Chat Icon

I put myself on the wait list, but in case it doesn't come in ... I found a back up at Macy's which is nice, but I'll need a wrap of sorts.
