2/20/08--What's funny is that I never called her "Katie" a day in her life Chat Icon Funny stuff!

OK...here goes...

So, Tuesday, Sept. 6th I go for my 40 week (+ 2 days) appt. I was told I remained at 1 cm and 50% effaced, made my next appt. and DH and I went for Pizza Uno (incidentally, my mom and dad had pizza the night before I was born!). On the ride home, DH decided we should go for a walk to "get things started." Well, it worked...

I began feeling period type cramps after the walk, started timing and found they were about 10-12 min apart. I decided to go to bed around 11:30, never got to sleep because of more intense cramps, started timing again at midnight and realized they were 3-5 min apart. I woke up DH, waited until 1am and called my doctor. We were on our way...

Arrived at the hospital just before 2am. In excruciating pain...only 2 cm! I tried to hold out for at least 4 cm. before the epidural, but I threw up twice in triage and decided 2 cm was good enough!!!

I was moved into Labor and Delivery, had the epidural...miracle drug--but it wore off relatively quickly. Got a top off on that and tried to sleep, but was unable with all the excitement.

Well, the baby's heartrate was decelerating during the contractions and wasn't recovering quickly enough. I was on oxygen the whole time. I also had every sort of tube coming out of my nether regions... Foley catheter, amnio infusor (after they broke my water), and fetal scalp monitor. I also got a shot of terbutaline to slow down the contractions to give the baby time to recover from distress, but that also didn't work. I still hadn't progressed beyond 3 cm. C-section was becoming likely and then inevitable. I was surprisingly not scared, although DH was.

DH got into his scrubs, I was wheeled into the operating room, further drugged, and it was on. I have to admit, it was the longest 40 minutes of my life, and a c-section is no fun and games! The doctor announced she saw the head, and then said, "We have a GIRL!" My DH and I were shocked beyond belief!!!

I spent 4 nights in the hospital, and c-section girls, I had no idea, but you guys deserve all the credit--recovery's a b****!!!

Anyway, we are both doing great now, and everyone in the family is so thrilled with our new addition...Katherine Emer...born on 9/7/05, 9:20am.

Now, introducing our little miss Katie...
