best/cheapest grocery store
our new home is about equidistant from King Kullen, Super Stop and Shop, Pathmark and Waldbaum's.... in general, who usually has the best prices? and what's the best place for meat (I usually go to a pork store, but that might change...)?

i prefer stop and shop over all of the major chains for most of my groceries.
When I am stocking up on meats I usually order from C&J's in west babylon and when I just need something here and there I usually go to Best Yet.

We go to Pathmark, always have good sales esp if you have the discount card. It's not as "classy" as some of the other stores but $ talks!

I agree - I think they are the cheapest overall. Not the hugest fan of their meat though.

I love Stop and Shop. We have a great one close to our new house. I love that they have Boars Head in the deli.
I get a lot of meat at BJs or Cow Palace.

I think your best bet is to compare the ads on line and switch weekly depending on who has what you need on sale

I agree with Pathmark. I am not too impressed with Stop and Shop because I get half the amount of things there than Pathmark. With 2 kids, I need to get the most for my money.

Pathmark is probably the cheapest of those you posted, but we go to Stop and Shop for the Boar's Head cold cuts.

seriously, their knock off cinnamon toast crunch cost $1.50 a box. when have you seen cereal that cheap? and it tastes EXACTLY the same.
too bad the food section is so small 
I ususally go to stop and shop for other stuff, and BJ's for meat. Or I look in circulars for sales on meat and go wherever that weekend.

I agree! There meat isn't the greatest though! I usually go to the butcher for meats or BJ's

Well, I think Pathmark is the cheapest but the location closest to me is still a little far and it's not very nice-- a little "skeevy"
I believe that the next best ones in terms of pricing are ShopRite and Stop and Shop.
Then, King Kullen
And then, the most expensive, WALDBAUMS.
They are so $$$!! King Kullen Managers (my Sister worked there in HS) used to go to Waldbaum's once a week and write down a lot of their prices and then they would come back and make theirs a little less on everything in order to compete.

I like Stop and Shop the best as an overall grocery store; better selection, prices, etc.
For lowest prices, Pathmark wins every time.

Stop & Shop...I like their selection & how clean the store is. Every time I go to Pathmark, I get annoyed that they never have the sale items & things are thrown all over the place

i like stop n shop best too. Waldbaums is much more expensive, IMO. I don't live near a king kullen so I can't comment on that one.

When I lived in Nassau I had all the stores mentioned near me. We always seemed to go to Pathmark & BJs.
Now that I'm out east. I have yet to see a Pathmark near us We've been going to Walbaum's...oddly enough it's the cleanest and cheapest around. Though...I haven't gone to the Stop & Shop yet.
BJ's has excellent meats. Especially the family packs of the chicken - they're HUGE...but recently, the past couple of times I bought chicken from there it's been bad...like  I open it up and want to puke. Needless to say after two times I've cut back...
