bedroom doors open or closed @ night

At night do you leave your or your DC bedroom doors open or closed?

We have been leaving them open and putting the cat in the basement at night but DH thinks I am crazy and thinks we should shut the doors and leave the cat alone. DD is 7 weeks.

Re: bedroom doors open or closed @ night

I close both of their doors as soon as they go into bed and they stay closed all night. We all sleep better if their doors are closed. We are all on one level and our doors are all very close, so we can hear them if they cry during the night.

Re: bedroom doors open or closed @ night

We leave DS's door shut; DD has wanted her door open since she moved to her toddler bed; which is fine

We keep the bedroom doors to our DC's room open at night and they are one and two years old.

That's what we do. I open DD's door just a crack before I go to bed.

We leave our door open and the kids doors closed. I have a colonial style house and our family room ceiling opens up to the bedroom hallway. If I were to leave their doors open, they would hear us and the TV after they have gone to bed.

Re: bedroom doors open or closed @ night

Closed always. Otherwise the dog will wander in there during the night and whine or something and wake DS up and then I will have to kill the dog. So for Murphy's sake, the door stays closed. Chat Icon But mineis open because the dog sleeps in my bed. Chat Icon

I close their doors but leave mine open

ETA: I also have a cat and the night when the kids are asleep is the only time my cat gets to come up and socialize, she is not a kid cat.

Everyone's door gets closed at night or else the cats will come in and sleep on your face. Literally.

Re: bedroom doors open or closed @ night

was closed until recently....now that the heat comes on, it gets too hot in DD's bedroom, so once DH and I go to bed, we open DD's door, but when she first goes in, it's closed

Re: bedroom doors open or closed @ night

We always had our doors closed, both DS's and ours. But recent;y DS asks for his to stay open and if he wakes up in the middle of the night and it's closed he screams for me to come open it, so we've been leaving everyone's doors open.

Re: bedroom doors open or closed @ night

We have 2 cats and from the moment we brought dd home, we never shut her door and the cats never bothered her (which we were very surprised at) we thought they would go in her crib but thank god never did. One of them would actually go in and sleep on the floor in front of her crib almost as if she was guarding her, Kinda of cute! I would try leaving the door open and see what happens. If they try to get in her crib than i would shut the door, GL!!

We have a one bdrm so I can't answer, but someone asked this before on here and someone answered that their brother or BIL was a fireman and told her it was safest to have everyone's bedroom door closed. I thought that was interesting and asked my cousin who is FDNY and he said the same, it is safest in case of fire for everyone's bedroom doors to remain closed overnight.

We keep it closed so the cat can't go in. I even keep it closed when DS is not in there so the cat won't go in the crib.

I could be wrong on this. Correct me if I am.. But, I always thought that for fire reasons you should always close doors. That way if there is a fire, you have a bit of protection. Now that I'm typing it, It sounds werid. Does anyone know?

Actually, I just looked it up and I found some stuff that says that you should keep doors close because it delays smoke and carbon monoxide from getting to you. It said that most people don't die from flames but from smoke inhalation. Closing the doors gives you a few extra minutes.. God forbid!Chat Icon
