DS is now only 1 month and goes to daycare between 8 & 10 weeks old. We are worried about how he'lld do and how 3 woman handling 8 infants would handle him. This is because he's totally attached to me during the day. He won't nap in the crib without just screaming (and he's too young to understand CIO, right?) and I basically live with him on my shoulder unless it's tummy time or he'll go in the swing (which is only for about and hour a day that he'll sleep in there). At night he's so good about going right to sleep and staying in the crib, but he won't not cry unless he's with me in thel day. I assume this is normal for his age (or is he spoiled already?) and how would daycare handle a baby that can't be put down? TIA!

DD was a bit older when we went to daycare, and she was and still is a mommy's girl.

I went to daycare with DD a couple times before dropping her off and stayed behind her. She did well and surprised me, NO TEARS. She didn't even look for me. We stayed there a couple hours, and the day before I did a trial run and left her there for 2 hours. Once again she did awesome and i came back to her sleeping in a swing-SHE HATES her swing at home!

It's hard but you can't expect daycare to hold the baby all day long, they won't and can't do that.

Babies are resilient, they adapt quick, it's the mommies and daddies that have a harder time :)

My daughter was the clingiest, most colic baby on the planet, and she started daycare at 8 weeks. She was always crying, rarely slept and I always had to wear her on me to soothe her, so I was so unbelievably nervous.

For the few weeks leading up to it, I would take her there at least 2-3 days a week for an hour or so and hang out with her and the teachers - it helped me more than her Chat Icon Chat Icon

In the end, she did much better at daycare than she ever was with me! She adapted SO quickly and SO well, and truthfully, at that age, they really do not know the difference, as long as someone is tending to them - the real problems started at about 1 year when Alex finally understood that mommy was LEAVING.

Those early days were great - it's true, they didn't spend quite as much time rocking, soothing, coddling Alex, but it was good for her. She learned to adapt to different styles, and to an extent, learned to self-soothe. She went from being one of the more difficult babies, to, as our teacher just told us, "the most laid-back and sweet baby" she's ever had Chat Icon Chat Icon

Don't worry - as long as you've picked a very good daycare, your baby will be fine Chat Icon

I am purposely putting Cailen in the swing and feeding him in the Boppy during the day to prepare him for daycare - no one will be able to hold and carry him all day... he is 5 wks old, and loves when I hold him, but he's learning to spend some time alone (mostly in the swing)

He is going to have his moments where he will cry and want to be held - I'm expecting that the daycare providers in the infant room are used to that and will know what to do... It is going to be hard when I have to drop him off at 8 wks old, but I don't have a choice...

Thanks ladies. I know the ladies at daycare are experienced and will know how to handle this, my DH and I are just worried...but I'm sure he'll adapt and be fine. I just can't stand to hear my little man cry and think of him crying by himslef there Chat Icon
