Re: are there any tricks to getting your 14 month old

the LNP at my dr's office told me to play games like

"Don't eat that meatball, if you do we are all going to scream!"
Baby will pick up meatball, stick in mouth then everybody screams...

I came home and told Leo this game plan, he said we better start eating with the windows closedChat Icon

Ok, I'm going to sound like the meanest mom here, but whatever I make for dinner, my kids have to eat. Ok, there are a few exceptions when I do make them their own meal, but for the most part, they eat what we eat. If they don't eat it for some reason, I make sure they eat plenty of sides, like the veggies or rice or potatoe.

Re: are there any tricks to getting your 14 month old

Usually rather than deal with the battles, we make one thing we think they'll eat (veggie or meat) per meal. We started this probably about 15 months old after having battles over dinner time.

They have to try everything on their plate.

They're told to go on a "treasure hunt" on their plate & find something on their plate that they do like & eat it. They're not allowed to say Eewww, gross or anything like that (partly because I think it's rude to comment on food others are eating, but mainly because Joseph will often influence Maddie with his "That's disgusting!"comments).

Here's where the mean mommy comes into play...If they don't find anything they like on their plate, then they don't eat & definitely don't get dessert. When they're going to bed & say how hungry they are, I tell them "Ok, you'll have a big breakfast"

The book, "Green Eggs & Ham" is made for this type of scenario.

Hmmm...this is how our house works too. Maybe because DD is not old enough to disagree with what we are eating. However...there are times when she doesn't eat much, so I will give her some puffs or cheerios, but 99% of the time she eats what we are eating.
