We don't claim DH's daughters, and I cashed bonds to pay for Cailen's daycare. We are pretty much screwed. Chat Icon

We got screwed this year. Last year we got back a few thousand. This year we owed a few hundred. Paychex screwed us though because I selected Married, but withold at higher single rate on my W4 and they were witholding at the married rate. Chat Icon

We are going to owe thousands that we don't have because of these savings bonds I cashed. Which we don't have - I need to set up a payment plan. I'm gonna cry Chat Icon
I hope it's not as bad as I'm anticipating Chat Icon

Bonds are tough. My dad cashed in bonds each of the last few years and that really changed his situation.

I think this year he broke even, but he claims single 0 so he was already paying a ton of taxes.

It's always a cr@p shoot for us - depending on how they've reclassified DH's funds. We almost always get a lot back.

Now that they've made it a K fund, going forward we are completely screwed after this year. Anytime he's out of work, any money we take out is out of his retirement fund- so it's interest & penalities.Chat Icon

We went and had ours done today. We owe about $500. Not horrible, but not a joy either. Especially with me being unemployed right now, this isn't great timing. Thankfully we have it in savings.

Re: Anyone worried about tax season this year?

Nope. I get 87,000 tax free in the US and I don't make that much, so I am not concerned. DH's pay isn't included in our taxes, b/c he is not a US citizen. I pay taxes over here and I will not get a money back in the US. If I made over $87,000 then I would be really mad b/c I would get taxed in two countries. I will get no money back in the US, which is fine with me, but I am happy that I don't have to pay.
