Anyone know what happened on the Southern State today (Wantagh area)
DH and I were heading west on the SS this afternoon and cops with flashing lights and sirens blaring kept passing us - like 9 of them!  finally we get to the entrance to the Wantagh Pkwy and there were a million cop cars and there was a BMW on a police flat bed tow truck. a bunch of guys were being handcuffed and frisked. there was also a police helicopter hovering.
I am so curious as to what happened!

dont know but sounds like something out of the movies!
i'll ask a friend of mine if she knows, she lives in wantagh right by SS.

it really did look like scene out of a movie!

We went to the Freeport festival today and we were on the Southern state at 445. Around that time?
There was an accident, 3 cars, one was smashed up against the divider. It held us up. I would assume that might be what you saw the commotion for? I dont think anyone got seriously hurt from what I could see (police didnt even get there yet).

no, it was earlier than that - maybe around 2:30-3pm

My friends were on the Southern State at2:30. They live in Commack and said it tool almost an hour to get to Wantagh from there.

we passed the whole scene as it was happening. I can only imagine the traffic nightmare that ensued!
