My sister did it, but not in NY. (And her second was 18 years ago) I know it's possible because I've heard others that did it.

Good Luck to your friend. I don't recall many other ladies who had a VBAC, but I know there is at least another if not 2 more ladies....

Unfortunately, not many OB's will even consider it. It's been almost 2 years since mine, I wonder if my OB still goes for it??

One measure in a hospital's ratings is the number of successful VBAC's. I'm sure Winthrop would be more than happy to put her in touch with a dr that would at least see if she's a candidate. Have her call and ask for a rec.

What is the medical reason that VBAC's are not done/recommended often? I've always wondered this.

There is a 1% (maybe more, this is just what my Dr told me) that the uterus can rupture and cause MAJOR damage.

They take that 1% (or more) very seriously.

I'm pretty sure he does still go for it even though I haven't seen a VBAC pt of his in awhile. One thing for sure I will say about him is that he's not one to be quick to throw in the towel when it comes to c/s like other OB's. All the nurses love him!

Just wanted to add some Dr's are hesitant when they did not perform the c-section. If anyone does consider a VBAC and they want to switch Dr's make sure you get an operative report so your new Dr could know where your scar is how your surgery went, etc...

I Chat Icon him too! Chat Icon He's like a big teddy bear! That's good to hear that the med malpractice insurance hasn't driven him in other directions!

It depends on the woman really, if you had a section the first time because the baby was breech and baby #2 isn't, then that woman is a good candidate for a VBAC.

I would love to consider a vbac next time. But if my doc says no, then I trust him.
