Anyone have to elevate the mattress due to reflux?

DD has reflux, and practially drowns of her formula if sleeping lying down after eating (even a hr or so after). Dr told me to elevate the mattress.

Anyone have to do this and how did you do it? Did it work? Suggestions are appreciated please!Chat Icon

Re: Anyone have to elevate the mattress due to reflux?

I just bought a wedge at BRU. My ped told me to take the wheels off one end of crib and it would naturally elevate the crib, problem was both my DC spin in circles all night long (even as newborns) so they would end up on an incline the wrong wayChat Icon So taking wheels off or putting blankets/sheets under the mattress never worked for me.

The wedge doesn't really work either because they roll off of it, but at least if they do they aren't inclined the wrong way.

We have the wedge also.. they do slide down but we roll up a towel at the bottom of the wedge and put it under the sheet.. this helps them from sliding down.

We did. We put rolled up blankets under the mattress.

Thanks D.

It's so sad, it sounds as if she is under water while sleeping...fluid bubbling up. What happens is from her reflux, when she pushes to let out gas or poop, her formula backs up. This am it backed up over 2 hrs aftger feeding so I took her to the dr b/c it just is out of control now that she eats more. So she has to go in the actual crib now and I have to elevate the mattress b/c she def eats at least 2 times a night.
Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I hope it works.

What if they roll off the wedge? Can they roll off of it and onto their face somehow? I am heading to BRU tonight to see what they have.

I may just try putting her in the crib and elevating the whole mattress. I wonder how much she will slide?

Neither of my DC rolled onto their faces, just so that their head wasn't on it anymore. Either they laid next to it or their feet were on itChat Icon

I never tried towels...

If she doesn't spin herself around you can elevate the mattress, but if she can she will end up with her head down the incline which is worse than being flat if she rolls off the wedge. KWIM??

Yeah, that's not good either! DD is a spinner. I will have to try and see. But yeah, I could see what you are saying about the head at the bottom. Ugh.

we used a wedge for a bit but then stopped b/c she was sliding down it. once we found what worked for her we didn't need to elevate the mattress.

Re: Anyone have to elevate the mattress due to reflux?

i got bed lifts at bed bath and beyond and put them under one set of wheels on the crib. we were using a porta crib, so the wedge wouldn't fit under the mattress. this was my only option. it worked fine for a while. (although we used it for congestion not reflux)
