Blue Cross said I am covered 50% but it has to be from an in network durable medical equip supplier. I got the list of places and so far 10 for 10 don't carry pumps...

I have Empire BC/BS

They gave me a few in-network medical supply companies but also gave me one that is out-of-state but has free shipping so I called them first since the rep told me they definitely have breast pumps. Check and see if they are in-network for you too...

The info is:

Edge Park
Te: 1800-321-0591

They have the Medela Freestyle and they processed my order and all my information for me today. I will find out tomorrow whether or not it is covered and what I would owe. Fingers crossed I can get the 90% discount!! Chat Icon

That's great- I'm gonna call tomorrow!

I called this morning. They were really nice. Took my info, created an account for me. Now I'm going to go online to see my options then I can order it right then and there or call back and do it over the phone. They take care of the insurance and if it isn't 100 pct covered they will let me know before filling the order.

Re: Anyone have any luck getting a breast pump covered by insurance?

So I called Edge Park today and I think my out of pocket for the Freestyle (which is $379 + tax at BBB) is $115 total, but I'll find out for sure later on. I hope everything goes smooth! Someone already purchased the pump from my registry so that will be a SWEET BBB credit, lol.

THANKS LADIES, I would NEVER have even thought of this!!!

They definitely have the freestyle. It took a while for the rep to find it but he put that in for my order.

That is excellent about your pump!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have the Empire Blue Cross Empire Prism PPO plan. I just called. It's 100% covered so long as I purchase it from one of their in-network medical supply companies. They are sending me the list. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This was one of the most expensive items on my list of things to purchase, other than those on my registry. I could kiss whoever suggested this. Chat Icon

I got "the list" too (I also have Empire Prism PPO- but I guess a diff plan within that b/c I'm only covered 50% until I hit some out of pocket minimum) and none of the places carried breast pumps until the pp suggested this out of state place that is in network and ships- so u should check them out if u don't have luck with that list (Honestly I called like 85% of the places and then gave up when the leftovers were like in the Bronx, etc.)

Re: Anyone have any luck getting a breast pump covered by insurance?

FYI.. For those with Empire who was told if you get it from a durable medical equipement supplier it is 100% covered.

While technically they are right. It does go towards your dedictible and I still wound up with the cost of mine.

Just another additional question to ask!

I think for everyone it really depends on the plan u have within the company. My empire is diff from someone else's kwim?

This is 100% accurate. Just because you may have the same insurance COMPANY as someone else, you may not have the same COVERAGE. So call up your insurance company, give them your info and check for yourself. Shouldn't take too long at all.
