yup! i have severe sleep apnea. I stopped breathing something between 20 - 30 times an hour.

I have a CPAP machine, but I don't use it as often as I should. Chat Icon

Me too except I never use it. Its soooo annoying!

Anyway, I went to the sleep clinic in Stony Brook, near the museum. It was very nice, clean and the people were great!

Re: anyone ever been to a Sleep Clinic?

DH has sleep apnea and went to the sleep clinic at Winthrop. He uses the CPAP machine and says he doesn't know how he lived so long without it!

good luck!

I went to the sleep clinic in Stonybrook too. I ended up not having sleep apnea so I guess I am just doomed to a life of always being tired. Anywhoo...the people were really nice, it was clean, and I was happy with the service.

Re: anyone ever been to a Sleep Clinic?

I just went last weekend. I went to the the North Shore clinic. It was nice. My doctor swears I have sleep apnea I don't think I do. We'll see what the test shows.

For those with sleep apnea why not use the machine? My husband is getting one he has severe sleep apnea. I can't wait for his machine to come. It's a scary thought that you can stop breathing in your sleep.

Re: anyone ever been to a Sleep Clinic?

There is one in the Huntington Medical Group where I work.

My DH went to one but not where I work because of our insurance he had to go to their other location at Brookhaven hospital.

Turned out he had has SEVERE Sleep Apnea (approx 70 episodes an hour). He now has a CPAP machine and it is the best thing!!! I can finally sleep & he sleeps better!

Re: anyone ever been to a Sleep Clinic?

My dr. told me that the sleep machine isn't mandatory for everyone. If you have an elongated palette, they can perform surgery and short the palette and eliminate the apnea! This is what I was going to do if the test came back positive!

Re: anyone ever been to a Sleep Clinic?

I went for a consult at a place affiliated with Winthrop years ago but never went through with the actual study because of insurance issues. I had to wait months for an appointment too.
