Anybody have their tubes tied once they knew they were done having babies?

Yesterday, I was discussing my options with my doctor for after this baby. Due to my age and the problems and scares we've had TTC this baby, DH and I are pretty sure we won't be having any more.

Since this baby will be a repeat c-section, I asked my doc about a tubal ligation at the same time. He said that he doesn't really recommend it because he said there is alot of cramping and bleeding after it. He recommended the Mirena IUD instead. I'm not really a fan of using hormones. But I'm trying to decide which way to go.

So I'm just wondering, if anybody has had this procedure, I would just like to know about the experience and what I should expect. Feel free to FM me if you'd prefer.

I have not, but I know of at least 4 people who have had their tubes tied during a repeat c/s. It added about 5 minutes onto the procedure and none of them has had any problems--I know because I've asked.

If you are thinking about using an IUd you should check out Paraguard, no hormones with that one. No complaints here..

I had the paraguard (I recentely took it to TTC soon). It was in for 16 months and I had no problems at all. My period was a little heavier for the first 3 months I would say but I never had the inbetween spotting that some people get with Minera.

The fact that you said you are pretty sure as opposed to you are definite, I would go with the IUD.

My mom did have her tubes tied but it wasn't durning a c-section. She was 39 when she had it done and her dr. gave her a hard time about having it done because he felt she was young still. She was adamant because she just had her 5th child.

My cousin had this done. She had no problems at all but that's all I know.

I would get teh Paragard IUD, I got it after DS was born and love it!
And it lasts 10 years and has no hormones...
Just an option to think about..

I wanted to but I delivered my last baby at a St. Catherines hopsital and they don't allow it there.

I know 2 people who had tubals right after the c-section and they had no complaints...and were happy that they were able to do it at the same time as opposed to having 2 separate procedures.

Im having mine done with this c-section in june... I have heard of the cramping and so forth after, but it is better then having to go in 2xs.... I switched hospitals to have this baby for this matter.

i am surprised your doc said that. honestly, i had a repeat C, and i had my tubes tied during the c-section. i was happy to have it done, i knew without a doubt this was it. and honestly, the recovery was no worse than when i had the 1st c-section. it wasn't bad at all. of course i felt so sick during both my pregnancies, that i had to feel better ater i gave birth, c-section or not. LOL

its not bad, really. it takes and extra 2 minuts to get done. and then its over. plus you'll have pain meds for the operation anyway.

oh, and my doc doesn't recommend the mirena anymore. she said she had a lot of peple come back asking for it to be removed because tehy didn't like the side effects etc.

I had my tubes tied in 07 when I delivered my DD. I had/have no problems whatsoever! In fact, my period is lighter & I have virtually no cramping.

Just a side note on the IUD - I had the paraguard prior to having DD. I guess I was within the percent of it's failure rate because I got pregnant. I ended up loosing the baby, but, just so you know, tube tying is permanent & 100% effective. No other b/c method is 100%, so if you're sure you do not want any more children, you should consider all of this.

I was suppose to have my tubes tied when I gave birth to DS...but I wound up having him at St Catherines so I couldnt. Most doctors recommend that if you are going to have them tied that you do so at delivery..I find it strange that your doctor would recommend otherwise...

B/c I couldnt have them done at delivery I had the Essure process done a few months after birth...

It was painless, done in office, and is hormone free...

I would have my husband have a vasectomy.
If you are done, then you are done. No need for an IUD. An IUD is great for many, many women who want a non-permanent form of birth control.

I didn't have a c-section, but I had my tube (I only have 1 to begin with!) tied when I gave birth anyway. No cramping and no problems.

I plan on doing this at my section next month. i need to speak to my dr about it again bc i wasnt sure at the last appt. I just want to get everything taken care of at once.

Thanks everybody for your replies. Now DH and I just have to decide if we are def. done. If so, I'll be having the procedure!

This is what we are doing. So much easier for him MY SIL had her tubes tied at her 3rd csection and said it was fine...

I had mine tied in 05 after my third c section. I have had no problems and have been very happy with my decision. I was the type that didn't take well to hormonal bc.

i thought about it since we are almost definitely done after #2... but i don't like the idea of having a surgical procedure, no matter how minor.

so i'll just be getting the paraguard IUD.
