another CIO question - Ferber method

We have decided tonight is the night. I haven't slept in 5.5 months and I can't take it anymore - I am physically and emotionally drained. I've done some research online but haven't actually read Ferber's words.

THe way I understand this to work, is the first night you go in every 5 minutes, and then increase by 5 minute intervals each day? It seems like you'd be going in an awful lot, does it actually send a message every 5 minutes? SHould I start with 10?
The ped told me to let him cry for an hour, but I'm not going to do that.

Re: another CIO question - Ferber method

I started with 5, then the next time I went it was 10, etc. Honestly for us, going in only made things worse. After that first attempt DH and I just agreed on a set amount of time before going on (45min) but DS always fell asleep before that. For us, staying asleep has not been an issue - not sure if that would change my strategy at all if that's an issue for you - DS needed to be rocked to sleep and needed to learn to go to sleep on his own.

Eta: I never read Ferber, just picked up bits on LIF and used what worked for us/what we were comfortable with. GL!
