Abby's First Birthday Party
Better late than never. It was a busy week. I will post more pictures when I get them, but here it goes:
Invitations: Image Invites (Yahoo Vendor)
They were easy to deal with and we went back and forth MANY times over layout and wording. They even cut me a break when I wrote the wrong year on her invites and they had to be reprinted. Some thought it was their problem. I knew it was my own carelessness and it all turned out fine:

As always, Heather took beautiful pictures for Abby's invitations. I was so pleased at how they came out. The pictures got tons of compliments!!!
Location: American Legion Hall, Plainview, NY
Since it is STILL summer, the original plan was to have Abby’s party in my IL’s backyard. With a pending storm having been on its way and a guest list of 60 plus adults and around 20 kids (a few of which were babies) I felt that it would be virtually impossible to have everyone inside should there be a downpour. My FIL is a member of the AL and suggested to check the availability. We literally booked the hall as a definite this past Wednesday before the party. Boy did we ever luck out. It was relatively inexpensive and a large room to accommodate everyone. There was PLENTY of room for the kids to run around and I could breathe easy. Truth be told, it was cheaper than renting tables, chairs and tents which was the original plan. It took us less than 2 days to contact everyone and everyone showed up!
Catered Food: Village Heros Syosset, NY
This is DH’s FAVORITE sub shop since he was a teenager. We ordered a couple of six foot heros (American, Italian, grilled chicken and fresh mozzarella and teriyaki vegetables) penne a la vodka, baked ziti and a boatload of chicken fingers for the kids knowing full well that the adults would end up eating most of it. Everything was delivered on time and was DELICIOUS. They gave us extra sauces for the pasta and the chicken fingers as well as all of the condiments.
DH’s Aunt made amazing potato salad and cole slaw. My MIL made a great tossed salad and my sister made a huge watermelon boat. I am so grateful that everyone pitched in.
Waitress Service – LIF VENDOR – The Silver Spoon Party Service
I cannot even begin to tell you all what an incredible vendor Rosemarie and The Silver Spoon is. I hired them upon recommendation from an LIFer when the party was originally supposed to be at my ILs house. Once the party was going to be moved, I knew for sure we would need help. I informed Rosemarie about the change, and she gave me a list of things that I would need at a location such as this. I’m glad she did as there were many things we needed to have.
Rosemarie and another lady (whose name escapes me) showed up one hour before the party started and began to set up. She came in with a big Rubbermaid type of tub and I was wondering what was inside. Well as it turns out, it was filled with table decorations and serving pieces that made the food table look so much better than I ever thought it would. I would have been perfectly content with serving the heros on the planks they came on, but Rosemarie took the slices and arranged them in baskets to make it easier for our guests to see what it was they were going to eat.

She then took some lovely faux flowers and vine-y things to put around the food. Her serving trays were so pretty and they made a huge difference in the presentation.
The two ladies made sure everyone had what they needed. They cleared up the plates on the table and refreshed drinks as necessary. When the food was done being served, they wrapped and packed everything up. Then they set up the coffee and dessert table. By the time the party was over, one wouldn’t even know that a party had just taken place.
I HIGHLY recommend The Silver Spoon and will surely use them again in the future. It was probably the best choice in vendors for the entire event.
Entertainment –LIF VENDOR - Twinkle Town’s Kimbo!
I wasn’t going to hire entertainment for the party but once the responses were coming in, and we had so many children, the teacher in me decided it was going to be the right thing to do so chaos did not take over. Kimbo showed up and the kids were so excited. The first thing she did was sing Happy Birthday with everyone to Abby. Abby was intrigued and not scared at all. In fact, Abby was so well behaved through the entire “show” sitting amongst the big kids in her dress like a little lady.
Kimbo sang more songs, did tricks, played games and gave tattoos to all the kids. She also did balloon animals. The kids were thoroughly entertained (as well as many of the male guests). She was sweet and professional and I am very glad we hired Twinkle Town to serve as entertainment for Abby’s party.

I thought Abby loved her theme but she wished I didn't love it as much as she did:
Cake – MrsFlatbread’s friend Marilyn
Marilyn made the cake for my baby shower. After seeing her work and tasting it, I hired Marilyn to make a cake for my sister’s 50th birthday party which came out gorgeous. It was only natural that I would hire her to make the cake for Abby’s party. Of course, Abby Cadabby would be featured. It was three tiered with butter cream frosting and fondant decorations. The bottom tier was yellow cake with butter cream filling. The middle tier was chocolate cake with chocolate pudding filling. The top tier was yellow cake with a strawberry fruit filling. There was nothing left but the top tier and that was more than likely because of the Abby Cadabby perched on top. I was so excited. People practically dove into it once it was cut.
Favors – Me
Since Abby’s birthday is at the end of the summer, I figured why not go with a “Back to School” sort of theme. I found an EBay vendor who sold nylon drawstring backpacks for a good price and filled them with different things for the different ages of kids that were guests.
So despite the venue change, it was a great day. Abby had a blast...:

GREAT pictures!!!! looks like little abby had a great birthday!!! and i LOVE the theme... im alreayd thinking about my abbys brithday and cant wait!!!! Your idea for favors was such a great idea!!

We had such a wonderful time and really enjoyed spending the day with Abby! Seeing her face light up made it even more special.
I have to say that the cake was freaking GOOOOODDDDD!!!!!

It was a great time and Abby was such as good girl for the entire party.
