a spinoff of sorts: would you have a GPS or other tracking device inserted
subcutaneously or in some sort of object that could not be easily identified as such or removed from your child, into your child to aid in finding him/her if he were ever God forbid, lost or worse, abducted?
say, something that would only be "activated" in case of an emergency.
I have to say...the idea is VERY tempting.

I would never be an early adopter. I would want to wait to make sure they don't cause cancer, the body won't reject them, they can't get dislodged and work their way around the body. I would also want to make sure it couldn't be hacked and used by the exact people it's trying to protect against.
Once those things were tested and proven, I would put serious thought into it.

Only if it could be easily removed when they were no longer a minor - or when they asked to have it removed (after age 18).

I would really like one that can be put INTO something that the child can wear. I would have a hundred of those suckers hidden in crevices.
I was just thinking about this b/c my cell phone has a link to GOOGLE Maps and if I log into it, I can see where I am on my phone.  
I would love to see that technology used to protect our children.

Probably, but I do hesitate.
For all the reasons Goldenrod mentioned, I would have concerns.
Then, I philosophically have issues with doing this because of the potential for miss use/abuse. I'm no conspiracy theorist but I do worry that something created for the purposes of safety could be used against the very people it was created to save.
In the end, my fears as a parent would outweigh my fears as a citizen and I would probably get it. I know I would kill myself if I didn't and my child was abducted. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if there was something I could have done and didn't do.

This actually exists.. My friend has one that she sews into her DS's clothes. You can also set up a perimeter of where your child is supposed to be and if they leave that area you get a phone call immediately from a monitoring company. She can log on to her computer and "see" were he is at all times.
