my BM supply crashed! is pumping to blame?

Last night at about 10, my DD finished her feeding. I was still really "full," esp on the left side, so I decided to pump. Since then, the left breast is barely producing anything. The right is slow, but there's something there. What the heck happened?? I'm chugging Mother's Milk Tea and had oatmeal for breakfast. What else can I do?

Maybe AF is on her way.

Drink lots of water.

Keep on pumping after feedings.
Also put DC to the breast as much as possible.

You can try More Milk Plus or Take Fenugreek pills.

When AF came back my supply dropped to the point where I wasn't getting anything out when I pumped. I took MMP, Fenugreek & blessed thistle. But I saw a great improvement after I added the blessed thistle.

I was taking MMP 3x a day, fenugreek 3x a day and BT 2x a day. I smelt like a syrup factory.

Do you have any hard spots? That happened to me and I ended up having a clogged duct

Sometimes it is the type of pump you are using. If it is not strong enough t can totally deplete you supply.

I did last night - that was why I pumped, actually. It felt like there was a hard ball of something in my breast. But once I pumped, it was gone.

I don't think it's possible that AF is on her way. DD is only two weeks old!

skin to skin contact
lots of water

nurse more.

is your pump new? make sure it is put together right and the parts are in tightly.

I dont think pumping once is going to cause a dip though -- keep trying! One day I got NOTHING at all, not a drop and totally panicked. It went back to normal though and I am still EPing at 4m!
massage while pumping, use a hot water bottle on your breast while pumping.

I have the Medala Swing. I turn it up to the point where it's definitely sucking hard, but not painful. But prior to last night, I hadn't pumped in a week.

Re: my BM supply crashed! is pumping to blame?

I think all of the suggestions are great.

Here is what I would do, and I am sure these things were mentioned-dark beer, Mother's Milk Tea, oatmeal, More Milk Plus, Fenugreek

Definitely make sure that you are drinking your water and make sure you are eating enough. You will be shocked how much your supply will suffer if you don't eat and drink enough.

I agree with skin to skin as well.

Check her diapers. As long as they are wet and she poops, you are fine. I know you are also putting her on the boob. I wouldn't worry as much about pumping-concentrate on your supply now and maybe pump after each feeding as well to increase your supply.

Also remember that it could be because you didn't pump in a week. And remember that a pump is no replacement for that little mouth. These babies are waaay more efficient in removing milk than a machine. Also check your pump, suction, etc. If you need, call a LC. It is worth it. And definitely keep putting Lila on the boob. The more you do, the more you will produce. She should hit a growth spurt in the next week or two and she will cluster feed. Nurse on demand, remembering that you need to drink and eat. You will be surprised how your supply will bounce back. And make sure not to wear restrictive clothes.

Hang in there. The first month is the toughest! If you need any help, you can text or call me whenever. I never thought I would make it, and now I am at 9.5 months EBFing and I am sure we will make it waaay past 1!
